    weighing down the braid

Beer is carbed, too much head- keg lines 5'

I let it go around 12 to 15 psi for 10 days and it tastes perfect. Only thing is, I get half a glass each time. I have the picnic taps and I open them fully and tilt the glass and it fills up very fast! 1/2 or larger head lots of times. I have not purged the headspace yet and reset the psi...

    Quick,,,leak at regulator

I am throwing another keg on today and on the back side of the connection from the regulator to the tank I can feel a slight hint of cold co2 creeping out. I have the white nylon washer in and have tightened the regulator on the tank as much as possible. I even put some teflon tape on the...

What do batch sparge with? cup/pot etc...

I am trying to find a better way for my batch sparging and wanted to know what others use. You may have 5 gallons of sparge water and and want to go 2 x 2.5 etc. Right now I use a larger Pyrex cup that holds 1 gallon so I have to do 3 pours for every 1 time I pour and winds up being 6 pours...

    Round v/s Square?

I have the 5gal round Rubbermaid now but am going to get a larger cooler for MLT. What is the consensus on round v/s square. I am going to do batch sparging split into 2 steps. Lots of people have the Coleman extreme and lots have the 10gal Rubbermaid round. Any one hold better temps, work...

    SQ14 arrives tomorrow, any tips/tricks

My Bayou Classic SQ14 arrives tomorrow and I will be doing all-grain outdoors for the first time. This is my first adventure into propane aside from a gas grill. The manual online looks pretty straightforward for connections. I plan on brewing in the garage (door open) to avoid any blowing...

Can I boil just under 5 gallons?

I have to cool wort in my sink and it only holds a 5 gallon pot. I do my mash in a 5 gallon cooler so about 12 lbs is about as high as I can go. I would use the proper amount of strike water but would cut the sparge water down to give a total boil of just under 5 gallons, say 4.5 gallons...

When to start to bring fermentation temp down?

3 days into an amber ale with White Labs -WLP051 All is well, yeast is floculating well and the blow off tube is constantly noisy. It says on the yeast vial to keep it between 70 and 75 to ensure a good start to fermentation. I have 72 or 73 for 3 days. Then on their site it has: WLP051...

    Leak!! - keg full

Ok, I hooked up my new Midwest keg setup last Friday afternoon, 5 gallons of amber ale have been in there at 20 psi and 40degrees since Sat. morning, tasted yesterday and it was pretty much carbed where I want it, so I purged the keg and took the gas down to 12 to condition another day or two...

    Quick Pressure gauge question

So I received my new 2 keg setup a few days back with a dual gauge regulator. I hooked up the gas to just the regulator and the high pressure crept up to just over 600 like normal. I heard no audible hissing sounds or anything. So i turned my two pressure control knobs and got psi up to 12, let...

    Filling a Hole?? Fridge

All, I am in the process of converting my Danby mini fridge into a kegarator. I have 2 cornies and a 5lb tank with dual regulators. It is very very tight in there if I attempt to get the tank on the compressor hump with the larger dual regulator. The shelf is not really the full width of the...

    PSI/CO2 when out of town?

Just wanted to know what most people do. I am new to kegging and wanted to know how to handle being out of town for several days. Do you just leave the gas on at serving PSI while gone or do you shut the gas off and then when you get back hit it with a little higher psi briefly. I guess what I...

    Another Keg setup buying question

I am purchasing either tonight or tomorrow a 2 keg setup and CO2. I have a LHBS that can refilll CO2 so I am not worried about tank switches. I want the 2 keg setup with the dual regulators to control each keg individually. The two I am looking at are keg Connection and Midwest. Keg...
