Went to the not-so-local-HBS last weekend and got the ingredients for my Soontobenamed Nut Brown Ale. Long story short, last night I looked at the can of Coopers Amber LME for an expiration date of some sorts. I didn't see an expiration date but I DID see what looked to be a code date...

Is there an advantage to using a bag to steep your grains in? Other than not having to strain? Seems to me that I could extract more "grain juice" if the grains were separated more. I steep inside on the stove and just add the juice to my full boil outside on the burner. Thoughts?
