    Longer rod for Auto Sparge

I contacted Blichmann about a longer float valve rod for my Auto Sparge. This was the response: "We just got our new, longer rods in at the end of last week. We have a nine inch, part number BE-00259, and a twelve inch, part number BE-000260 available. If you contact your retailer they will be...

    Critical error?

My system is hybrid gas/electric system. I'm running a 1650 watt 110 volt element. I designed it to use the propane at a very low setting to speed up heating, and maintain a boil. So, here's the issue. I installed a push button battery operated ignitor in the control panel, and ran the wires out...

Why is the indicator light always on?

I'm using 120volt neon indicator lights in my control panel. They are hooked up after the ssr to indicate when power is being supplied. For some reason they are always on. They do get brighter when the ssr closes, but are lit dimly before. What would cause this?

What to do with yeast from conical

Ok, I built myself a plastic conical, I dumped some yeast, and have no idea what to do with it. I know how to wash yeast from a carboy or bucket, but this stuff is much thicker, and I believe free of trub. So do I just cap it and throw it in the fridge?

Ever have black mold in your keezer?

So I open my keezer today and find black mold everywhere. I mixed up a bleach solution, and hose it down with the bleach solution. Let it sit for 30 minutes, rinse, and then hit it with a slightly higher then normal solution of starsan. The mold looks like it is gone, but it was everywhere...

Is my beer shank big enough?

Is a 2" beer shank long enough to work through a 3/4" piece of plywood?

I think my yeast is dead.

I got a Wyeast activator pack of Irish ale yeast yesterday. I let it warm up for two hours and then smacked it. Nothing happened. No big deal. I've had that before. The yeast was packaged in October. I made a 2 ltr starter of 1040 wort. I pitched it 16 hrs ago. In the past even when it didn't...

    PVC cement smell

I made a sparge manifold out of PVC, and used PVC cement to bond the connections. It smells terrible even several hours after putting it together. Does anyone know how long it takes for the smell to disipate? Any risk of it causeing an off flavor in my beer?

    Should I rack or not?

I brewed a Belgian Witbier, and it has been in the primary for 7 days. It had an original gravity of 1.047, and I'm fairly certain that it has hit it's FG. it is at 1.008 now. There is still a thick layer of yeast on top. Should I wait till it drops out, or go ahead and rack to secondary...

    My March Pump Sucks!

What is the deal with my March Pump. I have no issue priming it until I try to prime it with boiling wort. I've tried every thing I can think of, but it just will not stay primed when I'm trying to run boiling wort through it for the last 15 minutes of the boil. As soon as it stops boiling...

    Burner won't boil.

I have a 54,000 BTU burner (regulator says 5PSIG on top) that I'm using with a Keggle. I tested my setup yesterday, and it took about an hour to boil 7 gallons. It was a pretty weak boil at that. The ambient temperature yesterday was around 45 degrees. I used a windscreen to keep the wind...

I don't want to get "hosed"

Ok, I have everything I need to finish up my all grain system except for the hoses. I bought a plate chiller, and I need to know if it is absolutely neccessary to get the silicone hoses or are the reinforced pvc hoses good enough. I know they are only rated for 150 degrees, but...

    My lid is empty...

I just bought a 60 Qt. Igloo Ice cube. I think it will make a great MLT. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the lid is hollow, and devoid of insulation. Has anyone ever filled a hollow cooler lid with expanding foam. Would it even make much of a difference.
