    My new mill station

Got tired of using a 3/8 drill with my old Barley crusher. I now have a new Monster Mill MM3-2.0 with a 1/3 HP motor and 10:1 right-angle speed reducer. It runs at 175rpm with 109 in-lbs of torque. I love it. The bottom photo shows my new rig with the old barley crusher sitting on top.

Help wiring a RIMS control panel

I'm upgrading to a RIMS tube set up for my MLT. I'll still use propane for the HLT and BK. I only have 120v outside where I brew. I'm planning on using a PID/SSR to control a 1500w element in my RIMS tube. I'm looking for how to wire the control box with an interlock where the RIMS element...

    Portable draft device

I found a 70qt Ice Cube cooler at wally world for $32 bucks. I had an extra Co2 regulator, 3 gal corneys, and perlick faucet so I couldn't resist making a new portable beer dispensing device. Now I just need to buy an extra 5 gal Co2 tank so I don't have to take the one out of my kegerator...

max for 10 gal Rubbermaid cooler?

I'm thinking about brewing a Barleywine soon. I've never brewed a beer this big before. I use a 10 gal rubbermaid round cooler for my MLT. The grainbill for the recipe I'm thinking about is 24.5 lbs of grain. What is the legitimate max grainbill I can fit in my MLT?

suggestions for high gravity ale to brew

I've recently gotten my AG setup going and have my kegerator full with backup kegs waiting. Now I'm looking for a good high-gravity ale that will need to be aged for months to mellow and become all it can be. Does anyone have any recommendations (recipes) for a beer to fit this bill? a...

    pH adjustment during sparge.

I'm getting my AG setup together and would like to try fly sparging. I've read the pro's/con's about batch vs. fly sparging and I'd at least like to try a few batches with fly sparging before I try batch sparging. From my reading one of the things I noticed you must watch is the pH of your...

Looking for a good grain mill

I'm getting my AG set-up together. I'd like to eventually buy my grains in bulk so I'll need a grain mill. What would you guys suggest? I've seen single and double roller mills and adjustable and non-adjustable versions. I'd like to keep th price as reasonalbe as possible. Thanks for the...

transferring beer from sankey to corny

I just got my kegerator set up and will have it ready soon. I have a Sanyo mini-fridge that will fit 2 corny kegs. My problem is that I'm anxious to use my new toy but I won't have homebrew ready to put in it for another 3 weeks. 1/6 barrel kegs will fit in it but I can get a 1/4 barrel keg...

    malt question

I've come across an extract with steeped grains clone recipe for a Brown Ale I really like. It calls for 1lb of Crystal 60 malt for a portion of the steeped grains. My local Homebrew Shop stocks Crystal 40 and Crystal 80, but not Crystal 60. Would it change the flavor/character of the beer...

    hefe fermenting question

I brewed up my second batch of homebrew a week ago. Its a hefeweizen kit from my local homebrew shop using White Labs Hefeweizen yeast. It had a vigourous ferment from the start. I had to change to a blowoff tube set up on day 2 when my airlock was infiltrated. I left that there for 3 days then...

sanitation problem or just give it time?

I bottled my first batch of homebrew yesterday. I couldn't resist so I had to taste the last little bit that wouldn't fill up a whole bottle. Of course I knew it would be flat, but the flavor was quite harsh. It had the basic flavors I expected but it tasted pretty rough (I'm not good at...
