    Bored with session beers

I think I ruined my taste buds. It seems now unless I'm drinking an IPA or some really wicked porter- I'm not that impressed. Right now i have two brown ales bottled, Caribou Slobber and a Surly Bender clone. Like the Surly better but it just seems bland to me. No off flavors, just bland. When I...

First time fly sparging- water calculations

Just for fun I tried fly sparging this weekend. I normally batch sparge. My mash tun is a 10 gallon cooler, had a bazooka tube but I got nothing but stuck sparges. So I got a false bottom. Since i had the false bottom I thought I'd try some ghetto fly sparge. Took an extra 5 gallon mash tun and...

    Forgot my o2

Brewed up a batch of Zombie Dust, hit a 1.072 OG first time fly sparging, was impressed. Went to hit it with o2 and my tank was empty. Tractor Supply is closed. Would it hurt to get a new tank tomorrow and hit it then? Yeast is re hydrated US05

Strange lack of taste in AG Caribou Slobber

Have 3 batches bottled, including my first AG effort. The IPA, a clone of Bell's Two hearted is awesome. However my all grain Caribou Slobber (this was my favorite extract brew last year) is basically tasteless. My wife has a much more refined palate and even she says its missing something...

    Anything wrong with this?

Last AG batch I did was am IPA with alot of hop additions (it was the Bell's two hearted clone in the recipe section) and for the first time i didn't use any hop bags, just tossed them in(pellet hops). Well the massive hop trub nightmare convinced me I should never do that again. So yesterday I...

    New AG brewing follies

Did alot of extract last year, results were great. Decided to try all grain after getting all the gear gradually. First batch was Caribou Slobber and it went great I just had too much boil off (I thought). Second batch was an IPA, decided to not use hop bags for my additions.....huge mistake #1...

    Homebrewer from Eastern Pa

Been lurking on this site for a few years, decided to stick a crowbar in my wallet and sign up. I'm 45, married to a great woman, and love homebrewing. Been into it for a few years, last few Christmases I've been getting alot of equipment. This year the wife got me a stir plate and yeast starter...
