    Bell County, TX

Hey all, I moved the family to the Belton, TX area a few months ago and I'm curious if there are any other HBTers in the Temple/Belton/Salado area? - Chris

Bottle shop prices on the rise?

So I don't make it over to the bottle shop much anymore seeing that there's several gallons of homebrew in the fridge but I went in this weekend to get some "research material" on Belgian ales and it seems that prices are up a solid $0.50 to $1 per bottle - and that's just for the 11 - 12oz...

    Good pubs in London?

The wife and I are heading to London for a few days in a couple months and I'm looking for suggestions on specific pubs to check out and/or beers to try. We'll be staying in the Bayswater area. Unfortunately, the wife is preggers so we won't be pub crawling too much which means I need to find...

    Wow, that was fast

On Sunday morning I brewed up 5G of English Mild (OG = 1.036), finishing around 11:30am. Using one packet of rehydrated S-04, I had airlock activity within 4 hours and a rocking krausen by 10pm. By 5pm on Monday the krausen had already fallen but airlock activity continued. By 5pm today...

173* Minimash - Keep brewing or start over?

I'm about 45 minutes into my first mini-mash, an English Mild and came to realize that the thermometer I used to set the mash temp was off calibration by 19 degrees. I rechecked the mash with a properly calibrated thermometer and it read 173 degrees. From what I've read, amylase activity stops...

    Milled Grain Questions

So yesterday I swung by the LBHS to pick up my Christmas present from my wife, supplies for an extract Mild and a PM Oatmeal Stout. Not thinking about the time that will pass between now and the time I can actually brew (early January) I went ahead and milled the grain bills. So, is this stuff...

    Straight hefe tastes like honey?

About 6 weeks ago I bottled my forth batch of beer, Jamil's Hefe recipe from Brewing Classic Styles. The beer is good but has a very strong honey overtone to it and everyone notices...frankly, I don't think it tastes much like a hefe. I haven't had this issue before or in the 2 other batches...

July 4th - Best Brew Day Yet

On Friday, I brewed my third batch - Jamil's Harold-Is-Weizen from Brewing Classic Styles. This is the first batch that I created a starter for, a 2L beast using about half a pound of pilsner DME and a tube of WLP300. This was my first full boil and I had a couple minor boilovers but nothing...

AHS Sweet Stout - What happened?

So, two weeks ago I started my first beer, the Sweet Stout kit (extract version)from AHS. The wort prep went fine and I actually wound up with a higher OG than indicated - 1.060 vs. 1.057. When the wort was cooled to ~80 degrees I pitched a vial of White Labs London Ale yeast which had been...

    New Hobby in Tampa

Hey everyone, this is Chris from Tampa, FL. I'm a stout and Scottish ale kinda guy. SWMBO told me it was time for a cleaner and quieter hobby now that there's a baby in the house. I've got to have a hobby that mixes science, art, and an enjoyable end product to keep my sanity so I'm putting...
