    Using fruit preserves in mead?

    I'm wanting to make a lingonberry melomel, but whole lingonberries are near impossible to find (I have found one seller, but the cost w/shipping may be prohibitive). Can I use preserves to make a melomel? I'm guessing the added sugars in the preserve will have to be taken into account.

    My first hard cider

    I'm loosely following EdWort's Apfelwein. 5.5 gallons Tree Top Cider (on sale at Smith's for $1.67 a half gallon) + 2 lbs Corn Sugar + one packet (re-hydrated) Safbrew WB-06. SG was 1.065. Going to let it finish and back sweeten with a can of frozen apple juice concentrate to carb up.

    Am I crazy? Racking hard cider to secondary on apples?

    Would there be any effect or benefit to racking a hard cider that has fermented in the primary to a secondary on top of fresh sliced apples?

    Hard Cider No. 1

    This is just an off the cuff hard cider. No recipe. Just 64 oz cider (less air space , probably 56 oz in the end), 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tsp baker's yeast (with a dash of yeast nutrient). OG was 1.073. We'll see where this ends at.
