    Chinese Black (purple) Rice

I was recently at my local Asian Grocer's, and noticed that they had bags of black rice. I remember this rice turning out a very pretty dark purple when cooked, and I thought it could be a really cool adjunt, maybe for a wheat beer. Has anyone ever used, or heard of using, Chinese black rice...

    Increased Pot Volume

We (Kai and the rest of my house) recently brewed a wheat beer for some friends. Being lazy, we left the MLT, boil kettle, and hose at their place for a couple of weeks (unfortunately, we didn't get to brew in that time). Well, today we decided to finally do that hefeweisen, so we went to get...

    meat grinders?

I'm unhappy with the crush at my LHBS, and I've been looking into alternatives. As a student, I'm on a tight budget, and decent grain mills are on the upper edge of my price range. A friend pointed out that a meat grinder might work. Does anyone have experience using meat grinders, and if so...

    New kind of mouse trap

So, we've recently had a mouse in our apartment. Not a big problem, we just hear him in the walls, or see him under the radiator. It's to be expected, in a basement like this. His name is Gargantua. We haven't set a trap, because Ned the rabbit might get hurt. A couple of days ago, we...

    Plantains

So I'm doing a project for my History of Beer class, and I need to brew a plantain beer. I've heard that these are common in North-East Africa, but that's about all i know about them. Does anyone have any information about plantains, or African beers? I'm thinking of using Sorghum as a base.

    trying St. Ambroise PA

I recently rediscovered my love for the St. Ambroise Pale Ale, and I've decided to clone it. Does anyone know of a good clone recipe for St. Ambroise PA? Or, failing that, can anyone suggest a good yeast to use in a clone?

    decoction question

I was reading a thread that said squeezing the grain bag would release tannins and make your beer astringent. What about decoction mashing? Does that release tannins? Has anyone ever had problems with off-flavours from a bad decoction mash?

    Access to beer

I've noticed that a lot of people treat Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as pretty key beers. Not earth-shattering, but touchstones. I've never tried either of these beers, nor have I seen them in stores around here. Does anyone know where to get either of these beers in Canada?
