    Non-Alcoholic Sours?

This may be considered sacrilege here, but are there any non alcoholic sour type beverages that can be bought at regular grocery stores that taste like any tart wilds or sour brews? I really love these, and would like to drink them regularly just for the taste at times instead of paying out the...

    Overboard With Dryhops?

OK. I've had this brew in the primary going on 5 weeks now. Was going to bottle 2 weeks ago, but haven't been able to get to my nearest LHBS, which is an hour away. Wanted to dry hop Simcoe and Amarillo, but they were out of both. I ended up dropping 3 ounces of Cascade in tonight. Is this an...

    Affordable Sours

I've recently entered the realm of sours and they have quickly become my favorite beer. However, me wallet doesn't feel the same. The only affordable sour I have found around my neck of the woods is a sour mash ale from Lagunita's. And while it's good, it's not near the best. Affordable for me...

    Priming Options

First off, I apologize if there has already been a thread dedicated to this topic. Nothing came up in the search regarding exactly what I am inquiring about. Anyhow, I just used Northern Brewer's priming sugar calculator and noticed all the different options of different sugars and such used...

To Trub or Not to Trub

I usually strain my trub, but ran into this article which is pushing me toward doing some experimenting myself... http://brulosophy.com/2014/06/02/the-great-trub-exbeeriment-results-are-in/ Basically, this guy made a 10 gallon batch of Blonde Ale. He split the batch. Everything was the...

How Much Simcoe to Dry Hop

I've got a 6.4% ABV IPA at 58 IBU's. Dry hopping with Simcoe only. I have 3 ounces of pellets ready to go, but I feel this might possibly be an overkill with Simcoe alone. Should I dial it back an ounce or so?

Is Dry Hopping Necessary for Aroma?

I did an all Columbus PA a couple years back that called for an ounce dry. Instead I dropped it at KO, and was happy with the results. So, in general, can big hop aroma be achieved with the same amount of hops that would usually be used for dry hopping, but instead dropped at KO? I'm not so...

    Advice on Steeping Grains

Looking to brew up a sweetish type IPA tonight. Is there too much steeping grain, or should this give me a nice toasty sweetness? 6 lbs Pilsen LME 1 lb Golden Light DME 1 lb Wheat DME 8 oz Munich 1 lb Crystal 10L 1 oz Northern Brewer (60 min) 1 oz Chinook (15 min) .5 oz Cascade...

    Munich vs Crystal 10L

I am brewing an extract IPA recipe which calls for 1 lb of Munich malt to be steeped with a half lb of Crystal 70/80. I do not have any regular Munich. However, I do have some Crystal 10L and Munich Dark 20L... My question... can I sub either a lb of the crystal 10L or maybe a half lb of the...

What Additions to Simple Brown Ale

Getting the Simply Beer Brown Ale extract kit from Midwest. What can I do to make it better? - 0.25 lbs Special B - 0.25 lbs Chocolate Malt - 6 lbs Gold malt syrup - 1 oz Willamette (60 min) - Safale S-04 Ale Yeast. I was thinking of adding a lb of dark DME, .5lb of coffee malt for...

Lagunita's Aunt Sally Sour Mash Clone?

Anyone have an extract recipe for this? I absolutely love this brew. According to their site, they add lactobacillus to the mash. But, it's my understanding that this can be added to a boil as well with similar results. I'm assuming they use some pale malt. I'm trying to figure out how much...

    Midwest's Simply Beer IPA

As most of you probably already know, Midwest has a Simply Beer series that sells for $19.99 per kit. I've been away from brewing the past couple years, but now my wife is interested in it. I pulled out all my equipment and took inventory. We both enjoy IPAs. So, as a welcome back brew, we are...

    Two Hearted VS Celebration

Two of my all time favorite IPAs. Two Hearted has been a long time best for me. However, I popped open my first bottle of Celebration Ale this year... and it is AMAZING! I really wish Celebration Ale was a year round offering. For now, this is my new favorite IPA:cross:.

So far, mine has been the pale ale kit from AHS.

    DME or LME

Wondering which gives you the best results. My thought on my experience. I have done almost exclusively LME. But I had recently done an all DME recipe. And it is the best brew to date. It was Briess DME. I am thinking that since Briess is such a large company, that they make a more quality...

    Pale Ale Recipes

I am a huge PA fan. I was thinking of creating my own recipe. So I am hoping for some critics, and some of your favorite PA recipes. This is one that I am thinking of brewing up. 6 lbs extra light DME 1 lb Crystal 40L 4 oz maltodextrin 1 oz Chinook @ 60 min 1 oz Cascade 15 min 1 oz...

What is your favorite Pale Ale kit?

I love pale ales and IPAs. I brewed up AHS's pale ale kit a few weeks ago. All DME kit. Decided to follow the instruction to the tee, except for the dry hopping (I just find it a pain). I added the oz at KO instead of dry hop. Partial boil and everything. And I have to say, it is the best PA kit...

Pitching dry yeast on 90 degree F wort

I was thinking that if you are supposed to rehydrate yeast in warm water, couldn't you just cool the wort down to 90-100 degrees and pitch the yeast right on top of it? And then just cool it down to 65-70 degrees before fermentation begins. I mean, you are rehydrating it in warm water to begin with.
