Everyone seems to harvest from the yeast cake of a prior batch. Why not make a slightly larger starter and just save 10-20% of that to use for a future starter? It seems like that would be way easier. Has anyone tried this?
I do my late dry malt extract additions with 10 minutes to end boil, and it takes me a good 5 minutes after the addition for the wart to start boiling again. When I'm timing my boil, do I stop the timer until we start boiling again or just let it continue to run the entire time?

People keep telling me that dried malt extract and liquid malt extract are the same (when not hopped), does everyone agree with this? I mean the additional volume in the liquid alone must have some affect, right?
