    McMenamin's "Black Widow Porter"

I was in McMenamin's High St. Brewery in Eugene, Oregon recently and had their "Black Widow Porter". What an awesome beer... I'd love to figure out an accurate 5 gallon all-grain recipe for it... Here's some clues From their website...

    Kreusen in neck of carboy

Had a robust fermentation using San Diego Super Yeast. I'm fermenting a 2.5 gal batch in a 3gal Carboy. I used a blow off tube and a fair amount of Kreusen remains in the neck of the Carboy. I plan on dry hopping in the Carboy this weekend and wonder if I should try and remove some of that...

Yesterday I bottled my first double IPA... I used the Priming Sugar Calculator on Northern Brewers website.... http://www.northernbrewer.com/priming-sugar-calculator/ The beer had been cold crashed over night at 45 degrees. I used THAT temperature in the Northern Brewer calculator... I...

    BIAB - Amount of Water.....

I have brewed 2 batches now with the '3 Gallon' BIAB kit from Northern Brewer. The kit consists of a 7.5 Gallon kettle and a BIAB bag. BIAB 2.5 Gallon - Yeast Starter..important? (or not)

How important is it (or not) to use a yeast starter when brewing a BIAB 2.5 Gallon batch of IPA? I'm using a 3 gallon glass carboy, and just directly dumped an entire vial of White Labs WLP001 in it on my last batch. It seemed to have a pretty vigorous primary fermentation after about 12 hours...

    BIAB mash temp control

I just brewed a BIAB 2.5 gal batch using the Northern Brewer 7.5 gal pot and strainer bag kit. The beer came out pretty good (stone ipa clone) But I recall having a hard time getting mash temp where I wanted and keeping it there. I think on average it wound up pretty high at 158 and would...

3 Gal BIAB IPA - help plan final steps

Hello! I have brewed a 3 gallon batch of IPA using BIAB method. I used a local home brewshop's Stone IPA clone recipe cut down for a 3 gal BIAB batch and the grains were double crushed for the BIAB. Everything went well during the mash and boil, and got it transferred to a 3 gallon glass...

2nd All Grain IPA Batch...good flavor not carbonated enough

Hi.. I entered the world of brewing by brewing a 1 gallon all-grain Brooklyn Brew Everyday IPA. That came out OK.... taste was so-so but seemed like it carbonated OK The second batch I sourced all the grain, hops and yeast from my local home brew supply (Hydrobrew in Oceanside Ca,) for a 1...
