hop teas and boiling extract syrup

I'm doing an extract kit from NB, it's the double ipa. the directions say to use a hop tea, just water and hopes for the bittering addition and an addition at the 30 minute mark. This is supposed to be boiling while the wort is boiling. so I have a few questions, namely why boil all that extract...

    Commercial brewing resources

hey folks, not sure where the best place to ask this is but I'm assuming it can be moved if needed. I'm looking for any resources that might pertain to the economics of running a microbrewery. Everything from sourcing ingredients to the mechanical setup and maintenance of equipment, hygiene...

    souring agents

so i've had this question nagging at me for weeks and i have to ask... if i were to use a sourdough starter i have to sour a beer, would i be wasting my time? i know there's a real farmhouse of bugs in my sourdough starter so i was wondering if that could be a source of favourable...

    SMaSH

would it be sane to try a single malt single hop beer with 100% wheat malt? or all munich? i'm wanting to do some single mat/hop beers but my lhbs only carries can. 2-row for base grain...but they carry an ok selection of the more common specialty malts/grains. so other than being more...

    infections

moderators i have no idea where to place this thread as it seems infection threads are everywhere, sorry if this was a bad choice. i've had a few batches now since before i went all-grain and after that have exhibited similarly odd characteristics. at the surface of the beer their always...

    ag recipe comparison

i tend not to brew with style guidelines in mind. at this point i'm just playing around with a few malts but mostly hops; i want to be more familiar with individual hops so i've only been doing single hop additions with a failry simple grain bill. but i was wondering what the general consensus...

    witbier-partial mash intro

i'm trying to slowly coax my father into the partial mash world. he's been doing extracts (mostly kits from northern brewer) for years but i thought he would enjoy something a little different with potentially better results. so i'm looking for a critique of this witbier recipe. i was at the...

    wing capper

i know wing cappers aren't the best, but i can't afford a better one right now so that's what i'm using....but do wing cappers eventually stop capping well? bottling my beer tonight and i'm a little over half way through but my capper won't make a good seal anymore....if my capper's busted is...

    Oxy-san

has anyone used oxy-san before? i like that it's biodegradable, non-toxic, and the residue is actually yeast nutrient...been using it for a few brews and so far its just as effective seemingly as any of the nastier chemicals...but i thought i'd see if anyone had any thoughts on the product...

    oatmeal stout...with tea?

am new to extract brewing and i've been looking for a fairly simple recipe. my idea to use the oatmeal as a steeped grain with significantly lower quantities or roasted barley and flaked wheat...not sure what extract(s) to use... mainly, my question is regarding the addition of tea...perhaps...
