    BrewPi

Has anyone else seen this? It looks incredibly cool and would definitely be fun for someone who is technologically and mechanically minded and looking for a bit of a fun project. http://brewpi.com/

One of the Co-Founders of Bioware is Leaving to Make Homebrew

Bioware is my favourite video game company. I was sad to read yesterday that the two co-founders are both leaving to pursue other passions; while the quality of the company's games have been on a serious decline (especially) recently, I was pretty amused to see that Greg Zeschuk was leaving to...

Brew / Bottling day from hell

Hi y'all, I was wondering if anyone had some brewing horror stories to share. I've only had one or two completely smooth brew days (granted, out of six or so) and most bottling days have been great. It seems sometimes you plan for everything and don't have a single hitch, while others nothing...

    Sunlight skunking

Hi y'all, I just finished brewing a batch into a glass carboy. I did this during the late afternoon, so there was some sunlight coming in through the kitchen windows, but not much. My question is a bit silly, maybe -- can sunlight skunk beer before you add yeast? My intuition says no, but...

    Honey Beer

Hi y'all, I have a recipe that calls for 8lb of Pale Ale LME and 1lb of honey. I've read that honey will typically result in a dry beer, but I've also read that adding honey at he start of the 60min boil will burn off a lot of the sugar and leave more aroma -- any truth to this? If not, it...

    Carbing and Conditioning

Hi y'all, My beers are currently carbing on my patio (covered) where the temperature varies from 40-50F (4-10C)... I don't want to carb inside because I don't have a cooler or anything and as it's my first time brewing I don't want to risk any bombs. I understand that carbing at a lower...

    Twist off bottlecaps?

Hi y'all, I bottled a bunch of beer the other day using some caps that work as either twist off or pry off (depending on the bottle you're using). They worked out as waterproof and none have exploded off (yet?), but should I be worried? Has anyone had any trouble with these in the past?

    Auto-siphon vs. Mouth

Hi y'all, I have a question that I figure might come down to preference. I've heard from various people that you either cannot start the siphon with your mouth or that it doesn't make a difference. Some say that the bacteria from your mouth can ruin your beer while my local homebrew guy swears...

    Hydrometer readings

When your hydrometer readings stay consistent for a few days, that's a sign that fermentation is complete, right? So how do you take the reading -- is it OK to just pop open your primary and pull a sample? That's not bad for the beer? newb questions abound!

    ...where do you get bottles?

Hi guys, This is something I've been wondering for a bit. Where do you get empty bottles? Is there a trick or a place you can go or what? My local homebrew store doesn't carry any, I typically don't drink out of bottles, and I can't think of a place to pick them up? Should I just hang outside...

    Hi's from Surrey, BC

Hi all, I've wanted to brew my own beer for awhile. I had a friend in University who'd go on about it, and another friend's dad has been making and supplying us with his homebrew for months -- probably the best beer I've had. I was in Bellingham, WA for the day and found a Mr. Beer kit. I...
