    Books on growing hops

I am looking to buy a couple of books on growing hops since I no longer have the internet at home. I think I will probably get this one-http://www.amazon.com/Growing-Curing-Hops-Department-Agriculture/dp/1249885175/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1373453094&sr=1-4&keywords=hops+growing Has anyone...

Looking for some suggestions for a Scottish ale.

My father is a big fan of Scottish ales. He loves Belhaven, but also wee heavies. I was wondering if anyone had any tried and true Scottish ale recipes. I browsed the recipe database and nothing caught my eye. I actually talked him into brewing this one with me, so I am pretty excited about...

    New Zealand Hops Question

Greetings brewmeisters, I am looking to brew a "kiwi" pale ale for my buddies wedding in June. I am pretty familiar with the various hop strains of New Zealand, however I am unsure which hop to use as my bittering/fwh. Any input and tales of previous experiences would be greatly appreciated...

    Temp Problems

With the onslought of winter I have come across a new problem. I rent the house I live in and I do not plan on staying next year. Problem is this: It is too hot upstairs (SWMBO=coldblooded), and of course it is too cold in the basement to ferment my normal ales. Solution=Brew alot of steam beer...

Wyeast 1098 or Keg system causing off flavor?

The last two batches I have done, ESB and Brown ale have both had a boozey taste up front. Almost like a winey or green taste. The finish on both are pretty decent but that up front booze taste is a bit tough to get by. I used wyeast 1098 on both for the first time is that just how that yeast...

    Question for accomplished home brewers.

This is a question for those home brewers that I would consider to be very accomplished, just to name a few: Yooper, Revvy, Biermuncher, AZ_IPA, EdWort. What stops you all from brewing beer professionally? Do you like your current jobs? Is it strictly a hobby? Are you lacking capital like me...

    Carapils question

Is a pound of carapils way too much for a 5gal batch? Anything I should expect from this batch? I made a mistake when scaling down a recipe and ended up with a pound instead of .5. As I dont have my own mill its already ground so I am going to brew it for sure.

    Post First AG Questions

Did my first AG brew yesterday, and i believe things went fine. Have a couple questions for the pros. Is there any reason you would not want to put the runnings from the mash tun through a fine mesh SS strainer on the way into the kettle. Would it even help if I already vorlaufed (sp?). Question...

    Unfamiliar Corny keg

Scored an interesting corny keg and other assorted goodies today on craigslist. Got a great deal too. However the keg is an unfamiliar one to me. I am used to seeing ball or pin lock posts for the gas and beer. This one had regular hardware store fittings attatched where the posts would normally...
