I am currently brewing a batch of cider. I had started the batch in a PETE (Polyethylene terephthalate) carboy, but a few days later I found it had acquired a strange smell and taste. I felt kind of stoned when i tasted some, and it had a strange aftertaste that I can't quite put. It's definately not an infection or a result of the yeast. Plus the sharp apple nose is more rounded and the flavor more muted. Is this from the plastic? I transfered it to a glass carboy, will the flavor stay or will it (hopefully) fade out?

I've had similar experiences when fermenting in glass from the start. I guess there's no harm in switching into a glass carboy. Even the ciders that I didn't like at first(too sharp, off-taste, etc.) got so good with aging. All little off-flavors and such just fall away.
