just want everyones imput since this is my first partigyle, and my first imperial stout. Im doing a 1.5 gallon 1105 batch and a 3 gallon 1052 batch, but to make it easier to compare hop schedules I just scaled each batch up to 5 gal.
grain bill/fermentables:
70% 2-row
5% Wheat Malt
5% Victory Malt
5% Roasted Barley
2.5% Patent Malt
2.5% Black Malt
2.5% Crystal 60
2.5% Crystal 120
5% Molasses, boiled 10 minutes
first runnings: 1105
hops:
23 gram millenium 90 min
28 gram nugget 30 min
15 gram n. brewer 5 min
~80 IBU
second runnings: 1052
10 gram millenium 60 min
16.5 gram nugget 30 min
16.5 gram willamette 15 min
16.5 gram willamette 5 min
~48 IBU
I know.. kind of an odd batch size. I know, 1.5 gallon "isnt worth my time." But Im trying new techniques and dont want to wager anything bigger.
hopefully someone can wrap their mind around this and give me suggestions.
DGB and radical brewing werent too helpful on specific amounts of flavor and aroma hops in stouts, so im also happy for any general suggestions or references too.
cheers.
