I as I am getting started in all-grain with some 1 and 2.5 gallon recipes and I don't have a grain mill, I find that I am ordering lots of specialty grains in 1 lb quantities pre-crushed.

What the best way to store these and how long do they remain okay to use? Is freshness an issue?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I was in the same position for almost a year... I would order 30#s of crushed grain from an online retailer and brew as fast as I can, though I had the grain for up 6 weeks. I stored it in a cool dry area, any leftover grain I put in ziplock bags.

I will say since I got a grain mill my beer has been better, but before I was never disappointed with the quality of using old, pre-crushed grain.
