    This can't be good...

it's also possible that you didn't get a good tight seal when you put the lid/grommet/air lock on and the slow activity that you are seeing now is actually the "heavy" part of fermentation....just a thought.

Looking for a recipe for the wife....

Just to follow up Janx's Bitter recipe got my wife's best rating to date "not bad for beer". Mean while my friends and I absolutely loved the stuff, it was far to easy to drink :). At this point though I realize I need a far larger setup to keep myself in beer. As soon as we're done moving...

    I'm Taking the Plunge, Too!

I've brought well more than 6 gallons to a boil on my electric stove top. I've yet to have any problems (other than that one batch where my wife wouldn't leave me alone and it boiled over and she got mad at me and i was all like i warned you but you wouldn't listen and she was all like you...

Just bottled and tasted my Pale Ale!

I've been drinking (heavily for me) my first AG for the last couple of weeks. The first few pints out of the keg were a little rough, but after being in about a week and a half it's wonderful, and almost impossible to stop drinking :)

    How much brew per week?

Back in my college days i drank alot....pretty much up until i turned 21 then I lost interest in getting fit shaced, and didn't really drink at all for about another year. This was about the time that I was introduced to home brew and realized that brewing my own was something I needed to do :D...

    beer questions

They all three broke in more or less the same way, at the thick end where the glass is over the ballast the end bits of glass broke off and I ended up with basically half a sphere of glass. I've just decided that they are too much of a pain....and I'm far enough behind on bottling/kegging(who...

    beer questions

Personally I've given up on hydrometers....I've owned 3 and broken all of them, bizarely in the same fashion (I did my test, then went to the sink to rinse it of and the minute the tap water hit they hydrometers pop....and I was very careful to avoid drastic temp changes). I've now moved to a...

    Corny kegs, one less cleaning

You'll have to watch the top of the fridge....we discovered with the one we bought this weekend that the freezer is where all the cold comes from so to remove the freezer is to remove the cold. We discovered that we could take the screws loose in the freezer and kind of push it up....if I...

    Kitchen Aid Grain Mill

I find that keeping my wife in her place is the best policy, and I'm not afraid to say it....well at least when she's not around :D

    Yeast slurry question

I like the racking port on by "Better Bottle", while it still leaves about a quarter to half an inch of beer on the bottom it really only amounts to a cup or two depending on how close I get it to the sediments on the bottom. The better bottles are shaped like this |/\| if that makes sense...

Plastic vs Glass Primary, The Ultimate Question

Speaking from my experience, I have to go with neither. I recently bought a 6 gal "better bottle" which I use for my primary. I dislike the plastic buckets because the first 4 or 5 batches I made were done in the bucket and all turned out with off flavors. I then switched to glass carboys, and...

    Hop preference poll

Being the dweebs that me and my brew crew are after our first whole hop usage(to go along with the first all grain). We each grabbed a spoonful of spent whole hops (some fuggles) and chomped down on them. I now have a greater appreciation for hops and the part that they play in beers.

    Malt preference poll

I'm still a newb at the all grain but I'm never going back to kit-beer/extract (unless someone gives it to me....which hasn't happened yet). In my first all grain batch I used some 2-row, and some Med Crystal.

Looking for a recipe for the wife....

Not trying to offend anyone, but are there any women on this site? I just realized from the last post that I haven seen anyone of the women folk on here, or if I have it hasn't clicked.

    Anybody using the Tap-A-Draft system?

I'm using one now. I have one of the 6L bottles in our fridge now, they aren't terribly big really. I can't recommend force carbonating because it will just suck through the little cartridges (It took 4 to carbonate and 2 to serve). It's alright but as soon as we move I'm ditching it and...
