    Astringency/overly bitter taste

I feel your pain! I've been experiencing the exact same issue. I went from stovetop BIAB to an all in one E-BIAB system that I made. It's been very frustrating. Since the switch, all of my beers have had a weird Bitterness that I can only describe as astringency. I work from R.O. and build...

Coors light clone (for my wife)

I'm afraid in the transfer you'll lose all your carbonation. Feel free to give it a try though, let us know how it works.

Lager: hazy when cold, clear when warm

Definitely sounds like chill haze. Happened every beer before I started using gelatine. It never cleared in a week. The off taste is most likely something else.

Coors light clone (for my wife)

The only way you can do it is with the special sodastream bottles. The beer should be up to the fill line then just 2-3 quick bursts, let it sit for a while, then remove. I don't know how you would bottle half a batch that way unless you had a ton of sodastream bottles. I usually only do this...

Coors light clone (for my wife)

I use the sodastream all the time with no issues. It's easy to overdo the carbonation though. Just give it 3 very quick bursts, whatever you do don't hold on the gas until the pressure releases. The next thing you'll want to do is wait half an hour or so before removing the bottle from the...

    Off-flavors with S-04/English ales

I couldn't agree more! I absolutely hate that yeast. Every time I've used it I could barely drink the beer it produced.

Fuming - About Ready to Hang it Up

Yeah man that's got to be frustrating! I've got a new system I'm working with right now and my efficiency isn't what it was before. I wonder if your crush isn't fine enough. I consistently got 83% efficiency with a simple BIAB pot and very fine crush. I'd check out your mill gap stir every...

    Aphid problem post harvest

I had the same problem 2 years ago. I dried the hops between two window screens with a fan blowing from underneath. The next day the screen was covered in aphids. I just picked out the hops and bagged them (probably including some aphids). The beer turned out great. I wouldn't be surprised if...

I made a English Gold Ale and it does not taste good.

S-04 is a yeast I won't use anymore. Some people swear by it, but with a google search you'll see that others like myself can't stand it. Have you used s-04 before?

    Fermentis S-04 Wierd Mineral Taste

I hate s-04!!! I will never use it again. My experience with it is the same as the O.P. For my palate, it makes beer taste like old school cheap homebrew. The last time I used it I brewed an English mild with temperature control. I could barely choke it down but my wife thought it was good...

Glass beads to separate wort from mash ?

I can't speak about the glass beads, but you know what does works well? Line the mash tun with Gravel. Brewing with a high percentage of flaked wheat or oats? Say goodbye rice hulls, say hello to gravel! Mineral content of your water not where you need it to be? Nothing a handful of...

How far can I push saaz hops?

I brewed a 5 gallon batch of Bo Pils using an ounce at 30min, 10min and flame out. I bittered with Columbus. The beer was the best pilsner I ever had, so much more saaz flavour and aroma than most commercial examples. I don't think 8 ounces for an 11 gallon batch is too much at all...

    Does this look infected?

Oddly enough it doesn't smell bad and as of last week it tasted fine (for new beer). I'm wondering if it's a dumper or if I should cold crash, keg and consume? Any ideas what kind of infection it is?

    Does this look infected?

Two weeks ago I brewed an American Amber O.G. 1.053. I fermented with rehydrated US-05. Fermentation went as expected, krausen subsided but then these milky bubbles started to appear. They look the colour of yeast. I've never had this happen before, do you think it's infected?
