    Fermentation chamber help

Oh wow. Why didn't I even think about an external temp controller? Thats way too logical haha

    Fermentation chamber help

I recently acquired a free master-bilt mini store fridge. The fridge is big enough that I don't need to modify it, but I do need to install an interrupter. I have no idea how to do anything with wiring, etc. So I need help on how/where to install the interrupter. Here is the wiring diagram it...

    Is secondary needed?

I do realize that I am not going to get as much in your face orange flavor, but hey that's what the recipe said. And I added .75 lb of orange blossom honey. But otherwise I followed it 100%

    Is secondary needed?

I just brewed Sam Calagione's Blood Orange Hefeweizen and I am wondering if it needs a secondary. Normally I know HW's don't need secondary fermentation as they are intended to be cloudy, but this recipe calls for fruit and zest in primary so I'm wondering if that changes anything. Also I...

    Amount of yeast to pitch

True. The only reason I'm worried is because this is my first light beer so I've been able to mask mistakes previously. But I'll probably end up pitching 2. Thanks guys!!

    Amount of yeast to pitch

Okay so according to the brewer's friend calculator, at full viability I will have 14 billion extra yeast cells than necessary. Would that be enough to cause any off flavor in my beer? I know under pitching and over pitching can cause off flavors and I really can't hide those in this beer

    Amount of yeast to pitch

I'm brewing a blood orange hefe this weekend and won't be able to get to my LHBS until brew day, so I can't make a starter in time. Mr.Malty suggests I use 2 (1.9 to be exact) vials of yeast, but for some reason I feel like this may be excessive and I really don't want any off flavors in this...

    Presoaking bottles

The only reason I am considering it is that my first batch I had a few bugs stick in the bottles. The box fixed that. But also I have gotten a good number of bottles from my friends which may or may not have been rinsed. I figured perhaps a presoak would loosen up whatever gunk may be in the...

    Presoaking bottles

Didn't mean to write "Sho" at the end. Whoops.

    Presoaking bottles

My father has a friend who swears by using a Rubbermaid container and filling it with a bleach/water solution and as you finish a beer simply toss it in the container and make sure it submerges. So I have 2 questions. 1.) Have any of you ever heard of or used this method before? 2.) I have a...

    Funky looking krausen

I really hope so! My last batch was Northern Brewer's White House honey porter and it was...ehh...not so good. Then again i think i may have fermented a couple degrees too warm. But I absolutely love stouts so I can't see where this could not be delicious! Cheers!:mug:

    Funky looking krausen

Thanks everyone! I'm just real new to this and this is my first time using liquid yeast. Previously the Nottingham didn't really leave anything but the brown behind. But I will take your advice DocScott and let it be.

    Funky looking krausen

Alright so for Christmas my brother gave me a Brewer's Best milk stout kit and I just got around to brewing it about two weeks ago. It came with Nottingham dry yeast but my previous experiences with Nottingham haven't been the best. I got some WLP001 at the recommendation of my LHBS...

It's about that time of beer!

What's on you guys' wish list for the holidays and what are you giving? I'm asking Santa for a new keg set up and giving some fine bourbon!
