    Is this an infection ?

When I added gelatin to my last batch I added it too gently I guess and it settled and gelled on top. I thought it was an infection but it was not, I ended up poking the top layer and it sank and cleared fine and tested good.

Another "Is my beer infected?" Thread, I'm guessing yes

Update, I racked to a keg and it was gelatin as the whole raft of gelatin sank to the bottom, I'm guessing from me poking holes in it. I guess I wont be so gentle when adding gelatin anymore and may give it a gentle stir after adding. Thanks for everyone's help!

Thanks for the response BrewInspector Yes I was referring to the sunset layer below the Krausen. For adding Gelatin I used boiled and cooled water in a measuring cup sanitized by starsan and microwaved to 150 and pitched using the thief. I used the thief to poke at the layer a little bit just...

Another "Is my beer infected?" Thread, I'm guessing yes

Thanks Rob! I took another look and it has a 1/2" distinct thickened layer on the top ( can be seen in pic 2 as the light layer ) and there is a hole in it where I took a sample today. My hypothesis is that this may just be a layer of gelatin that has solidified on top. I used a wine thief to...

Another "Is my beer infected?" Thread, I'm guessing yes

Hi All, I was just getting ready to keg a Munich smash and noticed some infection looking characteristics. I cold crashed and added gelatin about 3 days ago and just noticed that there is a weird thickened layer on top and hair like things, from what I read this sounds like a pellicle but have...

Jumping into All Grain and brewing for my wedding! Would love some help with equipment decisions.

I purchased that exact pot and mill from Ontario beer kegs a couple weeks go, I see no problem with a Victoria mill so far especially if you are doing biab it only takes about 1 min a lb to mill by hand and you can use a drill if you want. Ontario beer kegs is good, i believe they also own...

    HALLERTAU VS HALLERTAU MITTLEFRUH HOPS

Thanks for the replies so far, I really appreciate it! I ended up getting mostly the German Hallertau as they only had one left of the mittelfrueh. Reading the above it sounds like the mittelfrueh would have been the best out of the 2. Here is some info on what the hop supplier says about the...

    HALLERTAU VS HALLERTAU MITTLEFRUH HOPS

I am looking at doing a couple of lagers recipes from the Brewing Classic Styles book (Munich Dunkel, Vienna Lager) which call for Hallertauer hops. The site I am purchasing from has 2 types of Hallertau hops and I wanted to see which ones would be best and if there would be any major difference...

    Cervesa Kit without Lagering

Hi All, I recently bought a Festa Brew Cervesa Kit without realizing it was a lager kit. These kits are 6 gallons of pure wort and the kit came with s23. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to do. I would like to know what type of yeast everyone would suggest, I was thinking...

Filling 1 gallon wine jugs with kegged beer

Hi, I just secured a good deal on some 1 gallon wine jugs and was wondering if I could fill them with beer off my tap to transport? I don't plan on priming in them just to bring to a friends house. Thanks

5/8" beer lines - Perfect pours?

I think that was probably the OD instead of the ID, never the less I switched it out to the 3/16 poly tubing from mcmaster when I put my Perlicks in. Works great, a little hard to get the fitting on but boiling water works well. No taste from tubing

5/8" beer lines - Perfect pours?

Hi I currently have a kegging setup and bought 5ft long picnic taps that came with 5/8" tubing attached. I have been using this for about 3 weeks and have had nothing but perfect pours, I bought some 3/8 tubing as people have suggested but was wondering if it is necessary when I hook up my...
