    Belgian tripel

Thanks for the tip. We will keep an eye on the carb, as we open a bottle now and then. So far, the fizz has been lower than with most of our other brews... Also, now that it has been in the bottle a while longer, the sweetness is less, and more of a variety of tastes are coming through...

    Belgian tripel

I pulled the instructions that came with our kit, and it only recommends 1 wk primary, 2 wks secondary, then bottle. This is what we did, and when we went to bottle, no action was apparent within the beer, so it seemed ready.

    Belgian tripel

Thanks folks... it has been bottled for about 4 weeks. It doesn't seem overly carbonated but not flat either. It is interesting, sweet to my taste, but I am not used to beer that is on the sweet side. All of your comments reassured me that being sweeter does not mean I made a mistake in the...

    Belgian tripel

For our 10th batch this year, we used, as usual, a Brewer's Best kit. We have had excellent luck with these kits. This time we made a Belgian Triple. By comparison, this brew came out pretty sweet. Is that normal for a Belgian Tripel? I don't think we missed a step anywhere, but it seems...

Different stopper size for glass carboy?

    Great input... thanks all.

Different stopper size for glass carboy?

I picked up a glass 5 gal jug at a garage sale today for a couple of dollars, but the opening in the top is too small for the stopper/airlock systems I use with my plastic better bottles.... is this normal? or should they be the same size? I am thinking maybe I should get a book on...

    To bottle, or wait?

I looked up gusher infection here on the site... I don't think we have that. No terrible sour off taste, or huge foaming issues when we took the sample. You know, it is still bubbling, but very, very slowly. Some bubble residue floating on the top of each carboy, but not solidly covering...

    To bottle, or wait?

We did... tasted okay, I think.

    To bottle, or wait?

Thanks to all for the comments. My plan now is to wait for roughly another week before bottling these two batches. Our fourth batch is still in primary (an Imperial Nut Brown), and given comments here, I plan to leave that one there until fermentation seems to be done. Then I will rack to...

    To bottle, or wait?

Both these batches came from Brewer's Best kits. Both sets of instructions state: "... recommend home brewers employ the practice of two-stage fermentation. (Secondary)... When the fermentation slows (5-7 days), but before it completes, simply transfer the beer into the carboy and allow...

    To bottle, or wait?

We are new at this and I know this is a common thread, but after reading through many past posts on the subject, I am still uncertain about our second and third efforts. We have a pale ale, and a German altbier that have been in secondaries for just two weeks now, after primaries of...

Storing Star San in a Bluewave water bottle?

Thanks Nurmey. Have learned a lot reading through the forum. Appreciate the welcome.

Storing Star San in a Bluewave water bottle?

I have been doing a good deal of reading about mixing a batch of Star San using distilled water, and storing it for multiple use... I was searching about for a good container to store the stuff in, and ran across a make of waterbottle called Bluewave. Here is the product description...
