    Bottles Anyone?

Um, 'cause we don't have a "bottle depo"? Anyway, sounds like a good deal for those. $30 for a case seems pretty high to me, BUT, as I have learned the hard-way, sometimes there is no other choice.

    Blueberry Vanilla in the bucket

Yeasties seem to be slowing down a bit. I've moved the 2ndary into a cooler (about 65-68F) area that is also darker. Smells good!

    JOAM - Fruit hasn't dropped

The fruit in my first JOAM never did drop and I left it for about 3-4 months. Didn't know or think about the C02 issue BUT it came out really nice after bottle aging for 6-8 months. 'Course I had to keep checking it and only ended up with 2 bottles by then but..... A man's gotta do what a...

    Long Term Aging & Bottle-Questions

You might want to think about trying this. I did it for my first cider and it worked perfectly. I save a 20oz softdrink bottle. One of those plastic screw cap jobs (Diet Dr. Pepper to be precise). I filled it about halfway when I started my bottling. then bottled the rest of the cider in...

    Blueberry Vanilla in the bucket

Racked into the secondary this afternoon. Gravity was 1.058. Of course I tasted it! Pretty hot as you would expect. Blueberry taste is barely there but still I really liked it. Not too sweet which is what I was going for. Racking was not fun as the fun pieces kept clogging the...

    Blueberry Vanilla in the bucket

I wish I could remember where I got the original recipe so I could credit those folks with the inspiration. Alas, I did not write that down. Here is my interpretation of their Blueberry Vanilla Mead Recipe: 6lbs frozen, whole blueberries 4oz Real Vanilla extract 8lbs Honey (Kroger...

    Pecan Mead recipe?

:rockin: WOW. Some great ideas. In reading through all the posts, I think I like the idea of an extract the best. I can then adjust the "pecanness" to our liking. In fact, as I think about it as I'm writing this, it dawns on me that I can start both the extract and a traditional mead. Then...

    Pecan Mead recipe?

While finishing off my 2nd to last bottle of JOAM tonight, I told the wife what I was planning on starting this weekend: Pumpkin Pie Mead Blueberry/vanilla mead Strawberry Mead -- maybe. Haven't completely decided on this one yet. She surprised me by asking if I could make a...

started my first ever brew today! *stoked*

I brewed up my first Joe's Ancient Orange just over 6 months ago. I too had an aftertaste that was best described as "rubber stopper". This was after having it "age" for about 2 months. Didn't throw it out or drink it all but rather, decided to let it age even further. This past weekend...

    Simple Recipe in Progress

Just took a hydro reading: 1.008 While the juice started out real clear, it is now quite cloudy. Still giving off CO2. Taste is actually quite bland, alcoholly. Kinda expected that actually but was hoping for a more apple flavor. Bill

    Simple Recipe in Progress

At this point in my brewing life, I'm brewing for taste more than for alcohol. Now, having said that, if my brew happens to be a bit :drunk: strong, well, I'll just have to deal with it. :mug: bill

    Simple Recipe in Progress

Been fermenting furiously these last couple of days. Finally has slowed down. Smells very apple-ly (is that a word?). Will take a reading tonight or tomorrow as well as sneak a taste. Bill

    Simple Recipe in Progress

1gal Tree-Top Apple Cider 1 cinnamon stick 1 clove Safale US-05 Starting Gravity: 1.050 Sanitized everything with Idophor (sp?). Poured the 2, 1/2 gal jugs into a glass 1gal jug. Made sure I splashed it and shook it to aeriate. Added the cinnamon and clove. Opened the yeast and...

    Tastes Like Rubber Stopper

This thread may help although it deals with mead and not cider. http://www.gotmead.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17454 BTW, the rubber-stopper taste in my mead is not quite as strong as it was initially. I'm gonna give it another month, then try the copper/ascorbic acid. Bill W

    Small batch questions

In the states, cider is generally considered to be unfiltered apple-squeezings while juice is generally considered to be filtered apple-squeezings. Does it matter? Not to me... bill
