I did a kettle sour as well on Saturday using WLP677 (no starter). PH is dropping slowwwwwlyyyyy. I wish I had stumbled on this thread first; I'll definitely try the probiotics for my next attempt.:mug:
I don't remember the exact amount but IIRC it would have been around $80. $50 for the fountain pump, $15 for carboy holder, plus bucket and pvc fittings. You can obviously do it cheaper if you have any of the parts already, but I didn't and I have other projects I would rather spend my time on...
I have been using the Mark II for a few months now and I would definitely recommend it. I had planned to build one myself, but the Mark II was only ~$20 more plus required no time to construct. I use it mainly for washing corny kegs and car boys, although I have also used it on buckets and half...

I bought the 3-faucet version of this tower, and I would definitely recommend spending the extra $20 for Perlicks. They don't "stick" like standard faucets, meaning you don't have to jerk the handle for the first pour.
The tower came with line and commercial connectors, so you'll need to cut...
I brewed a Czech Pilsner and had the same problem. At the time I was brewing stove-top on an electric stove as well. I ended up chunking the batch:(
For subsequent batches I found that wrapping the kettle in insulation and placing the kettle over two burners helped immensely with getting a...
I use a hose rigged up to a whole-house water filter (to remove chlorine, etc.), and then I add water salts. So far I have been very pleased with the results, haven't noticed any chalky or bitter tastes. It's also significantly easier and faster to fill the kettle/HLT.
I recently brewed a pumpkin ale and used 3 ~3" sticks for a 5 gallon batch along with some cloves and nutmeg. I added the spices about 10 minutes before flame out along with finishing hops. The batch turned out very well, although personally I would tone down the spices a bit for a red ale...
