For Sale Whole HB Setup South East PA (West Chester)

I'm leaving the hobby for good. Everything must go. Not willing to ship/breakup stuff. Yet. We'll see what kind of offers I might get? I'm being lazy. https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/for/d/chadds-ford-homebrew-beer-complete-setup/7644030719.html Happy Brewing! Jay

    Carboy/ Keg Cleaner Giveaway

Almost 3000 entries already, pretty impressive. Better chances than the lottery I suppose. I'm in.

    Stainless Steel Shanks - 3 1/8" x 1/4" bore

That's great looking! Damn, you didn't mess around! I'm glad to see they'll be put to good use.

    Stainless Steel Shanks - 3 1/8" x 1/4" bore

You should have about 7/16" left exposed for your tail piece. Can you remove some of the wood off the back side of the 2x8 where the threaded nut secures the shank? So instead of going through 1.5" of wood, only go through 1.25" exposing more threads? Just an idea :-) Jay

Beer line tests & solution to the "plastic" taste

I too use 1/4" Bev-Seal Ultra, and I put ~30' line on each tap after reading here how little resistance these lines offer. I'm glad I did, because at 44F and 8psi, my beer pours very quick, but acceptable. Good luck getting it dialed in.

A dumb idea for a burner wind shield

Don't see why that wouldn't work, might be a bit shallow though. One way to find out... Your dog might piss in your beer though, so watch for that. Let's see, that's a LG TV, Sony DVD, Wii...

    Refractometer and recipe questions

From what I understand, the reason for the more advanced calculation post fermentation is due to the alcohol present in the solution. I only use a refractometer for both pre and post fermentation, but I also use the onebeer online conversion or beersmith's conversion for post fermentation...

    Airlock on secondary

And I'll throw out there that you probably don't NEED to get an airlock for this particular instance if it's a hassle. Remember, co2 is heavier than o2, so it will provide a blanket on the top of your beer keeping it fresh. As long as you don't shake up the beer too violently, disturbing the co2...

Jester Keezer Build, with a twist

Props! Great job, and cool idea on the frosted glass. I guess you have to be pretty careful with the glass when changing kegs, dropping free weights, etc? Or is it pretty tough stuff? You should do a "morimoto" theme, and have colored LEDs slowly change different colors, so every time you get...

    Gravity-fed CFC

Gravity works fine. Even with a March or Little Giant type of impeller pump, you'll still have wort left over in the coil after you loose prime when there's no wort left in the kettle. My only advice would be to make sure you have a ball valve so you can control the flow of the wort to ensure...

Keggle owners--how did you reuse your sanke spear?

I use it a mallet. I hit the top of the keg with it, holding on to the "handle" where the spear used to be. It makes a cool percussion instrument.

Spent Grains make compost pile stink

+1 Aerobic bacteria don't smell badly when doing their thing, it's usually the anaerobic. If you stir it more often to increase o2, you'll give the aerobic bacteria a leg up on the anaerobic cutting down on the smell. A good active compost pile smells "earthy". Also, you could have a stalled...

Has anyone used one of these?

What do you need to be simplified? The wiring or the tubes? Neither one of these are terribly complicated. The wiring is simply an old cell phone charger (12vdc) and a computer fan (12vdc). Make sure the amperage output from the phone charger exceeds the amperage the fan needs. Then join (+) to...
