How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

Just put up 3 gallons. 2,227 gallons! Someone should just go ahead and fill their swimming pool with apple juice, chuck in a few bricks of dry yeast, and see what happens.

Yo Orfy, look what I found in Orlando!

I had some in the UK and recently bought some in a crappy supermarket in New York. Frankly, it was way, way better in the UK. Maybe it wasn't treated well, I don't know. I did very much like the Scarecrow (or Circle Master for you UK HBTers) though, that made it across the pond just fine. :D

Rant for the day.(Politics in the classroom.)

I completely agree and I think it's sad--some of my favorite professors as an undergrad (who were otherwise the most brilliant, caring, considerate people) would routinely make anti-Bush jokes. Now, obviously it's a joke and everyone appeared to take it as such, but I don't think that...

    John Harvard's in Boston

I'm not sure how I feel about this place--I was REALLY excited to go there, since I've heard a ton of great stuff about it. The place looked great, but of the 5 beers (kolsch, APA, IPA, nut brown ale, stout) on tap, they were out of the brown ale and the stout. Fine, I asked what they had on...

Rant for the day.(Politics in the classroom.)

Personally, I am a fairly liberal bookworm academic**, but it does bother me when anyone brings personal opinions of any stripe into the classroom, especially political opinions. The academic environment is supposed to be the one place where you can discuss any idea or opinion and have it be...

getting things up and running again!

Glad to hear you're getting back into it--your cat looks less than approving, though. Mine likes to swat at the airlocks when they're bubbling, rub his tail all over sanitized bottles, and has to sniff each filled bottle. Cats are so strange.

    World's most expensive beer

I heard from SWMBO (who is an archaeologist) that a bunch of archaeologists found a kind of pit that they couldn't figure out--until they made beer in it. It was a really old brewery and the beer supposedly tasted awesome.

    NYC Brewfest.

I was reading about in Ale Street News and was so pissed. I literally leave for England at 6pm that Friday. I hope you all have a blast though. :D

    Historic Sanitation Methods

You also have to remember that virtually everything in the brewery came from the local area, where (generally) similar types of wild yeast lived. Especially in an established brewery, you'd pretty much have one strain that had outcompeted everything else, so you really still would have a...

How long does a smack pack last?

I'd agree with these guys and say that you're looking at a starter pretty much no matter what, so you might as well help your yeasties out and make it now, give them a healthier longer-term environment.

    SA Mayflower Golden?

Just had a glass of this when I was visiting Plymouth Plantation. Anyone know anything about it (aside from that it's made for the 50th anniversary of the Mayflower II)? Can't find anything on it anywhere. :drunk:

    What are you drinking now?

Tried Rogue's Shakespeare Stout for the first time tonight--not bad at all, not bad at all.

    Obligatory First HB Contest Post

Well, I finally gave in and sent in 5 beers to my first homebrew competition, expecting very little. It was a very nice surprise to get 3 2nds and a Honorable Mention, considering I've only been brewing since September. I'll definitely be getting more into the competition side of things once I...

Big @ss Ball lock keg on ebay

    Buy a dead guy

What's really creepy is that he's just some guy, you know? It's not like "Famous explorer and collector is selling a mummy", it's like "Your creepy neighbor is selling a dried-out corpse in a case."
