Will beer only age when carbonated?
I ask this because I made a 10 gallon batch a couple of weeks ago of an amber. After fermentation I kegged 5 gallons and forced carbed. The other 5 gallons I dry hopped. After a week in the keg the first 5 gallons tasted green but after another week the...
I actually gave it a good swirl and not just a little nudge. I am pretty sure the airlock wasn't stuck.
Just checked and all of the small bubbles have dropped back down to almost nothing again. Think I will just leave it alone and let it do its thing.
NEED MORE PATIENCE!!!
Just brewed an American Wheat. Oxygenated with pure O2 and pitched Kolsh yeast from a starter made 24 hours before brew day. Wheat was aprox 1.049 SG. When I do this I typically get a pretty good Krausen head after aprox 8 hours. Today I awoke to find no Krausen head. The temp is around 60*...
I am going to brew a strong Scottish ale tomorrow and do not have any calcium sulfate or calcium chloride. Calcium Sulfate is gypsum...can I buy the gypsum at HomeDepot?
Is there a form of calcium chloride that I can buy locally....nutrition store, grocery, etc..?

if that doesn't work the part # is 9230T625. It is actually 12x24 30x30 mesh size. I ordered 2 to so I would have a back up.
Mine is very simple. I used the 30x30 with a simple copper dip tube running through one of the corners of the square I made. I think the mesh came as 20'' long. I simply folded the SS mesh in half and then crimped the other ends leaving a small opening for the dip tube to fit through. I was...
I found my chest freezer on craigslist for $50. I scanned craigslist daily for about a month before I found the right one. I ended up with a nice 10.2. It will hold 5 kegs, a carboy and a 5# CO2 tank. You can check out the build link in my signature.
Thanks. Not sure I would go with cedar again for the wood. Love the smell and the grain once it was finished but the wood is so soft that is scratches really easy. While I was picking out the cedar there was also a couple pieces of spalted poplar. I really liked the black grain in the poplar...
Just finished my chest freezer conversion to a keezer. Check it out and let me know what you think.
You can find the complete build info here. I plan on getting the other 4 faucets as money will allow. The one Perlick 454SS that I do have is really nice.
The problem I have with this is the 1/2 of wort that the yeast is not pitched in is a prime target for bad bacteria to grow. The quicker I can get my yeast into my wort the better.
I just did something similar to this KAB6 mod but I didn't weld the final product. I grinded off the original welds and then drilled holes that would allow me to add ubolts that would secure the legs...instead of welding the legs back to a fixed position. This will allow me to adjust the flame...
Just moved to Tuscaloosa from Denver. I have brewed a couple since moving to T'town. I currently am fermenting ....
