Sorry, I have this as my next batch to brew, haven't done it yet. I will post back when I do. Would appreciate any feedback if you give it a shot. Thanks...

Sah'tea Dogfish Head Chai Tea Recipe Help?

I think I am going to make the Chai Tea on the side. Wow, $30 for peppercorns, ginger root, etc. I imagine the major cost must be the cardamom. Would cardamom seeds be a cheaper alternative? I am not looking to double the cost of a batch of beer. That is a very interesting idea about...

Sah'tea Dogfish Head Chai Tea Recipe Help?

Hi, Trying to develop a recipe similar to Sahti version made by Dogfish Head. Help appreciated. Most interested with help of Chai Tea and Juniper Berries... I will alter grain bill in Pro Mash, but am trying for a 7/1 ratio of Pilsner Malt to Rye for a 9% ABV. I will also adjust hops...

    Co2 leak... TEARS!!!

When I put my system together, it was pretty difficult to get the gas line over the barbs all of the way (lots of friction). Not sure that I have seen the screw clamps pop like you have stated, but it seems like if you are putting that much pressure (or just before they pop), that you should be...

    Golden Promise?

I've used it in my Wee Heavy and I loved the character it gave to the brew.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Northern Tier Pumking Ale... Tried it on tap and out of the bottle in a horizontal with other pumpkin beers. It's a sweet mess in my opinion. Surprised how high it is ranked on BAdv. With that said, my wife had no problem finishing what I had left behind.

Best way to bottle a few beers before kegging rest of batch?

I usually brew a 6 gallon batch and fill the keg first and stop the siphon on my auto siphon after the keg is full. I calculate the DME needed to carb one gallon, boil it, cool it and add to the remaining gallon. I attach the bottling wand to the end of the hose and restart the auto siphon...

Fly Sparge VS Batch Sparge: Facts

I went from fly to batch and now I am back to fly. It does seem like less work for me, no stirring. If you are not in a hurry (30 minutes more) it seems fine to me. Either one works, I just prefer fly.

    Regulator Leak?

Check for a small hole near the adjustment screw (the one that controls the pressure setting). Spray some soapy water near the hole and see if that is the issue. I went through the process similar to you and figured it was in the regulator area. Air was flowing pretty hard out of the small...

Got my autosiphon in the mail yesterday, and I'll never go back!!!

It always seems like a hassle to me to start a siphon. I did it for about 8 years, switched to an Autosiphon and will never look back. Maybe I don't do it right, but the Autosiphon may be the best piece of brewing equipment I have ever bought.

What is a yeast cake? How and why to use it?

That is what I have always done, just rack on top of old yeast cake. Usually done within a few hours of transferring the first beer to the secondary. I wonder what the effects are of over pitching, anyone??

Any lager recipe ideas for homegrown hops?

I have about 1# each of Chinook, Cascade, Centennial and Galena that I have harvested and I would like to brew a highly hopped lager. Maybe bittering with Chinook and dry hopping with Cascade. I know of many ale recipes to make a dent in my harvest, but is there a lager style/recipe that...

    Yeast from brewpub

I will be brewing a Wee-Heavy this weekend. I usually create my own starters, but wanted to jump start this high gravity brew. My local brewpub brewer is going to give me the slurry from one of his fermenters. If I bring in a quart mason jar, he said he will fill it up. My question is, how...
