I have a 4500 watt ULWD Ripp in my BK and I can get from 153 to boiling in a lot less than 30 mins on a 5 gal batch. I've only tested with water on my new RIMs setup. I've heard others state they have to set it back to 60% duty cycle to get the boil under control once boiling.

Id highly recommend using a contactor. They're fairly cheap on ebay. I got three for the price of one new one. Knowing that the element is off when I flip the switch is a good piece of mind for me. I'd also recommend using dual SSRs if you're using 240V. That's another topic of discussion.

I agree with Kal, having three failures is odd. I followed Kals procedures and the only problems I had involved my wiring. The diagram on ebay and the diagram on the back of the voltmeter were not the same. I agree that I don't see the point of having a voltmeter. An amp meter for me is very...
