Huh! Kinda makes me wonder if they're clean then...I would assume with the FDA they would have to be.
I just cracked one and one thing I did notice was I have a small amount of white "floaties" in each bottle do I'm foreseeing Whirlfloc doesn't eliminate everything, especially since the fruit...
I'm not entirely sure. My understanding is that there is a stronger flavor from frozen, probably from whatever processing they go through prior to packaging, but don't quote me on that.
On the sanitizing part, one thing I didn't mention is that I'm extremely picky with my fresh berries. If...
I've never sanitized them per se. I do wash them thouroughly, cut the tops, then cut them into 8ths....ie. half, half then half again. Haven't had a problem w/ seeds either. After they've been cleaned and cut I just pop them into a freezer bag, stick them in the freezer and dump them straight...
Just a heads up in case you haven't already racked on the berries. I also like a lighter amount of strawberry flavor and used 5 lbs instead of 8. The result was a level of flavor so light I could barely tasted it. I DID use fresh instead of frozen though, so that may have had something to do...
Son of a $%^!!!! Ok, need a few opinions on this one. Like I said before I adjusted. Wanted a more muted flavor so went with 5 lbs instead of 8 and went fresh instead of frozen. Didn't blend, just chopped myself....MISTAKE! There's not even a hint of strawberry flavor and I racked to the...
I gave a brew book that is awesome and free...forgot the dude's name..had a few ;-), that goes over that really well. If you pm me I can email it to you
Yeah, that'll do it. In the Woodbridge VA area they use a chlorination substitute that doesn't boil out I have to use bottled water. A buck a gallon is well worth the cleaner taste.
Did you get to trying a brew with juice in it yet? I've been wondering if that would work as well as say adding the strawberries into the secondary for a strawberry blonde.
Huh.....I was initially worried about anything they might use on the berries from the packing plant, but if you all swear by the frozen, I'll have to give it try on the next batch!
Ha ha, I usually have that same problem! I was really good on the last brew and waited the full 30.....easier to do because I was on travel for work though. ;)
What's your thoughts on frozen or fresh berries? I went fresh for my first time. Chopped them in half then quartered the halves.
OK, makes sense. Think I'll probably go the "halfway" route and go for the two weeks then. I don't have a place to cold crash it, so maybe that's the safer route?
