    Moving outside

Hi, I am a fairly new brewer and have been doing most of my work on an electric coil type stove with a 3 gallon brew pot. I have been pleased with every batch so far. Our stove broke and we bought one of those ceramic top types. Since I have already had one boil over I am going to move my...

    Someone with software

Hi, I purchased a kit from my LHBS that they put together. I figured why not and brewed it. It is in bottles now. I was wondering, if I listed the recipe here can someone with brewing software tell me more about what the beer will be like. For example what is the IBU and ABV. Also what...

Anyone use the "brewers best" kits?

I have made 5 of the brewers best kits and have tried 3 of them so far. All were good but I like the IPA the best.

    My Labels

After hours of going cross-eyed with PowerPoint I couldnt get the text perfectly round. As for the sinking ship it is my other hobby which I spend all my time and money on. Ten years ago a boat I had sank.

    My Labels

What do you think? I kept them B/W so I can print on a laser printer. I get 6 on a page and can easily cut with a paper cutter. Glue stick holds them on nice and is real easy to come off.

    Concerns from a Newbie

Hi Skip, I was wondering, did your kit include the 4oz, crushed Crystal Malt 20L? I brewed the same kit about 3 weeks ago and it did not include that. I brewed it anyway.

Does a porter need a secondary

I have done several batches already using the 1-2-3 method and the results have been great. I'm doing a porter now (Brewers Best Robust Porter Kit) and was wondering since it is dark, is there any value in clarifying in a secondary.

OK to open and close primary?

Already transferred to secondary. Yeast came with the kit, here are the ingredients: 6.6 lbs. Coopers Light Malt Extract 8 oz. Crushed Victory Malt 16 oz. Crushed Crystal 60L Malt 2 oz. Northern Brewer Hops (Bittering) AA8.0% 1 oz. Cascade Hops (Finishing) AA5.8% 1 packet Muntons Bear...

OK to open and close primary?

Just opened and it smelled great (nice hop aroma) Gravity measured 1.019 @ 74 degrees OG was 1.050 @ 80 degrees 10 days ago. Recipe calls out OG 1.050-1.055 and FG 1.012-1.015. So I think this means its time to go to secondary even though I'm a few points short of what the recipe calls...

OK to open and close primary?

The airlock stopped bubbling after the 2nd day. It started off really quick, rapid bubbling in ~7 hours but then died out somewhere around the 48 hour mark. It is now at day 10 and there is no bubbling.

OK to open and close primary?

I have had an IPA extract kit in a plastic bucket primary for 10 days. I want to open and check gravity to see if I should transfer to secondary (glass carboy). If I open and the gravity is still high should I recover and install the air lock again? Will oxygen getting in be an issue?

    Taste of Green Beer

Can anyone describe the taste of green beer? I see many posts talking about it but I am not certain of the taste. Tasted a bottle of my first batch after 1 week conditioning = not yet carboniated and tasted watery. Tasted a bottle after 2 weeks = mild carboniation, not much of a head...

    My future beer brewing helper

And that's root beer he's bottling!

I've been kicked out of my brewery.

Side burner of the BBQ worked nicely for me (seems OK for the small stuff < 2 gallons):

    Low Carboniation

Thanks for the tips. I think I will just wait another week and taste one again. Sorry for the notes, it works but it is a large file on a slow server because of pictures on it, if you want to try it go ahead but it will take a minute or so to open the file (even on a cable modem).
