    Had my first bottle bomb

K thanks! the combo of get them cold to prevent beer fountains then pop to release pressure and recap makes sense. Got them in the fridge right now. Gonna re cap in a couple days. Definitely gonna wear safety goggles when I deal with them after seeing the shards those things can produce. Thank...

Oh yeah I used 2/3 cup sugar. And it was one of the 22's the blew ( in case that wasn't obvious)

    Had my first bottle bomb

Woke up last night to a popping doing accompanied by the sound of glass breaking. Yep my first bottle bomb. I had split the batch into regular 12 oz'ers and 22s I did the 22's at the end of the bottling process. This time I used table sugar (cane)instead of corn. I hadn't bottled for months as...

    Steaping grains temp and time

Please don't flame me as I am only being honest: The aforementioned about steeping in a precise temp range (155-170 usually) as a good practice for future partial mash and all grain are definitely true. As well as the importance of grain to water ratios for mashing. When I first started I...

    Lme vs. dme

Yeah at my lhbs they have 3.3# lme for 10.50 or 3# dme for 10.50 I usually buy a 4.5# dme for $16. (Lhbs is a brew pub so i dont order online, get to support local business and have a nice pint while shopping) But as I said earlier with base grains at $1.30 a pound if cost is the main factor...

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Yeah notty is my go to cider yeast (and ale yeast as of late due to my house being in to mid to low 50s for the last several months, had to pitch it in a heffe because the danstar Munich was too sleepy to make bubbles) my "house cider" is the cheapest juice I can find with notty. pretty smooth...

    Lme vs. dme

When I'm doing extract I prefer dme. I have had lme scorch on me (probably my fault) and you can't just pour a third of the can in a ziplock for later use. For those of you with cost as a concern check out deathbrewers biab (brew in a bag) method. It's what I cut my teeth with mashing on and...

    Keggle

I picked up a kettle screen that screws into the ball valve keeps most the hop gunk out at a fraction of the cost of a false bottom. Hope that helps

    Empty Wessel Wiener (extract)

So I hadn't brewed in a while and wanted to throw together a cheap easy fermenter/keg filler. The resulting beer was a yummy light quaffable ale that surprised me how good it tastes. Here's the layout. 1# caravienne steeped 4.5# pilsner dme 2 ounces of cascade hops Irish moss 1tsp 1 package...

    Pear beer?

If you want to add at the end of the boil and don't want the haze you can use pectic enzyme. I have used it with boiled juice for cider with great results. Cheap too.
