No more glass for me ...PIC..

Speaking personally, I'm using plastic (cause it's almost impossible to get glass bottles over here), and these days I'm damn happy that I do. I have no opinion either way about the durability of glass compared to plastic, and I'm quite happy to concede that many people have used many glass...

50% of my online orders have been screwed up

After reading this horror-story of a thread, I'm somewhat glad I live in Australia. Sure, I'm paying about double what you guys are for ingredients and equipment, but using Craftbrewer for ordering has been a *very* pleasant experience. Prices are great, the orders are always 100% correct, and...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2009?

40 litres for me so far, though 20L of it is still in primary. I'm predicting about 200L for the year, in total. So... 372 + 10? = 382?

    You're no longer a n00b when...

    327. Your friends buy you ingredients for your next brew. And know the name of the recipe they're after. And bought the exact right ingredients...

    newbie cooper's kit oops?

Coopers is great in that they're opening the door to so many new home-brewers. Unfortunately, though, they've recognised that the best lure to most new brewers is cheap beer quickly. :) 20-24's more or less the sweet spot for temperature, with standard ale yeasts. I'm brewing higher than that...

What would you do if your LHBS was shorting you?

Wouldn't they have noticed they're getting more individual packages then they should from splitting up a big bag? I don't know what a pound is in a sensible measurement (like kilograms!), but that discrepancy is 10% out, so if they're using 50bags (for sake of argument) worth of ingredients...

Newb - have 3 beer kits from 1999 - can I still brew this?

The yeast that comes with the kits would be after eight years absolutely useless. Throw it out. I'm not very experienced, but I'd say get some good dry yeast from a brewshop, rehydrate it nicely before hand, and let it sit in primary for a good 3 weeks before bottling, to let the yeast do its...

    Anyone wanna help kaizen beermakin?

The problem is, you havn't given your location or your background, or said what it is you're actually trying to do. I'm guessing you're wanting to become a commercial brewer? More details are needed before any useful posts can be made...

    1st Brew in the fermenter

That's a really low OG, how did you measure it?

Does this make any dry hopping sense?

Ahh, the spirit of experimentation. Good on yer, look forward to hearing if it helped! Just think, where we'd be if someone hadn't experimented in the first place by letting grains go off, boiling the crap out of them, then throwing some weird yeast stuff into it and drinking the result! :D

    Cooper's Kits - feedback requested!

Sadly it's cheaper and more convenient to get common stuff like airlocks, taps and grommets from the local Kmart than a LHBS, substantially so. :( I believe in supporting the LHBS but when grommets are a buck 50 at Kmart which is walking distance from my house, or $4 at the LHBS which is across...

    Twist on tops

That's kind of weird, cause the only glass bottles I have at the moment are screw-top, and I'm just using the crappy type of capper that you hit with a hammer. I've only tested one, the brew that's destined for them's still brewing, but it worked out fine and screwed off as per normal. I'm...

Happy New Year!!! Any Brewing on the 1st?

Wasn't planning to, but somehow I ended up brewing a Little Creatures pale ale. :) I only wish I had something to bottle today as well!

    Cooper's Kits - feedback requested!

Flattop, it's in a swamp chiller that I cycle frozen bottles through, keeping it at about 24-26... It has been peaking at about 28-30 though when I've been away and not able to change the bottles. *sigh* This is one weird ferment. If anyone out there's from a yeast lab, develop just one yeast...

What are you getting for Christmas (Beer related)

I got nothing beer related, so I bought myself a kegging system. Now I just gotta start stocking extra kegs, which are nice and cheap here at the moment! Well, cheap by Australian standards, about $50USD... :( Still better than the approx $70USD they were going for! Time to treat myself! :D
