    PicoBrew Zymatic

Brewing my second batch (a mild ale) and noticed when the boil started, wort started backing up into the grain bed for a few inches before stabilizing and eventually draining back down after 10 minutes or so. I'm guessing some debris must have caught in the drain and cleared itself, but curious...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Thanks for the heads up. That's reassuring considering it was first batch. Went out and ordered a WiFi booster, so hopefully won't run into the situation again.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Picked my Zymatic up from UPS yesterday and gave the Pico Pale a whirl his morning. I'll hold off complete judgement until I have a few batches under my belt, but I see a very short life for my eHERMs before it gets sold off. My big worry going in was that the Zymatic is about as far in the...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I ordered mine on the 29th and it shipped on the 30th. Unfortunately, with the holiday slowing things down, it isn't slated to arrive until the 9th when I'll be out of town for a few days. I can only guess they must have had a run on orders at the end of the year and run out of some component.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Thanks for this. Was able to get in and check it out. I tend to avoid Facebook and was hoping to see if anyone had tried to use pin locks.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Pulled the trigger and ordered one yesterday. My interest has slowly been waning the last couple years due to two small children and how rushed a brew day felt when I could squeeze one in. This is exactly what I need at this point in my life and I figure maybe I can sell my eHERMS rig and...

    Heating Elements with Aluminum Pots

I've done about 20 batches with an aluminum pot and 5500W element. No problems whatsoever. Hardest part is threading the nut on the element as aluminum pots are thicker than SS, so can sometimes take a bit of fiddling to get it to bite properly.

    An IPA Experiment. Thoughts?

Here's the setup. I have an IPA going into the Keg on Friday on Nottingham as well as a Belgian-ish Strong Ale on T-58. I have a ton of hops in the freezer I've been trying to work my way through, so I thought I would brew back-to-back batches of an IPA and a Belgian IPA, using the same...

    Edworts Haus Oops

Was brewing the Haus pale last night and hit all my numbers perfectly. Then threw the container with an ounce of Amarillo and half ounce of simcoe in the kettle when the boil started, Whoops, those were my dry hops for the ipa I was about to transfer. Ounce of cascade at 30, half ounce at...

Houston...we almost had a big problem

I did use the strip gauge. It's char.

Houston...we almost had a big problem

In hindsight, I think installing the receptacles in the panel and then installing the wires might have contributed to the problem. Smaller space to really torque everything down well. This may be a good opportunity the break down the whole 240 side of the panel and tighten it up.

Houston...we almost had a big problem

Ok, dismantled it and here's what we have. I do believe i will switch to solid core when I put the new receptacle in. Thanks for the heads up. I have a ton of it lying around, so should be an easy fix.

Houston...we almost had a big problem

No worries. Probably be a day or two before I pull it apart and take some shots.

Houston...we almost had a big problem

Yeah, not the greatest feeling thinking about what could have happened. It was one of the hot wires and right at the receptacle, so no crimp. Screwed down.

Houston...we almost had a big problem

Started heating my HLT up today and went upstairs while the water was heating. Went to check on it about 15 minutes later and noticed the smell of plastic in the air. Shut everything down, opened up the toolbox that holds my panel and a bunch of smoke comes out. One of the terminals is...
