Harvesting yeast from the bottom of a keg?

I thought the point of washing the yeast is that it separates the yeast from the rest of the junk since the yeast takes longer to settle out. You can just pour the yeast off and leave the junk behind.

    Propane tank icing/losing pressure?

My propane tank ices up after going for about an hour which leads to loss of pressure to my burner (30psi banjo cooker). Eventually it gets to the point where I cant maintain a boil. Luckily I had a spare but I'd like to figure out a better way. Anyone else experience this or know of any...

What is wrong with my burner?

I can't maintain a boil to save my life. I have about 6 gallons in a 10 gallon aluminum pot with a banjo cooker. I've tried opening up the regulator all the way. Giving it more air, less air, and every combination in between and it will not maintain a boil. What is wrong? How can I get the most...

    Simple Immersion Wort Chiller

Just finished a dry run and got 7 gallons from boiling to 75f in about 20 minutes :fro: The only thing I might do is lower the coils, with any less volume they'd be sticking out. Mine is 20 ft, I probably wouldn't go any shorter than that but it seemed to work fine during the test run. I...

    Simple Immersion Wort Chiller

Thanks, if it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have thought to just make one. Good call, I'll throw another one on there, probably going to get some high temp tubing as well.

    Simple Immersion Wort Chiller

    Just finished mine on a budget of $40. I found 3/8" x 20' copper tubing at Lowes for $22. It's a little small but should be fine for 5 gallon batches. Materials list: 3/8" x 20' copper tubing = 22.62 1/2" x 3/4" barbed garden hose adapter = 5.46 #4 Hose clamp x4 = 1.94 1/2" ID...

1 bbl brew day on Twitter.

How do you heat/boil that much volume? What kind of burners or heaters do you use?

    One day I'll learn...

to handle DME without making a giant sticky mess of everything! I feel like a little child with sticky fingers. As soon as it leaves the bag it floats effortlessly through the air and when it contacts anything with .0001% moisture it forms a hardened sugary crust that covers my kitchen. When I...

    New favorite coozie...

That rocks for a coozie but I wouldn't want it on a t-shirt. :p Zima makes a XXX? I imagine it's like a mix between camo XXX and stale sprite.

    6.5 Carboy Question?

Considering they make 1 size 5&6 gallon carboys and a different one for 6.5 gallon I would say they are different.

What are some great session beer kits?

Hefe's peak very quickly. Even if bottle conditioned they'll be good in under a month. I don't know if you'd consider it a session beer but I know I like to put them away.

Best response to telling someone you homebrew

This is the biggest response I've gotten as well. Everyone knows some idiot that tried to make beer and it was terrible. Is sanitizing a newly discovered concept or something because there isn't much else that can go wrong.
