Any ideas when the 2016 harvest will start hitting homebrew stores? I know it was a tough growing season; hoping some good stuff still comes available to homebrewers.
At a pizza place in New Haven...
Me: Can you tell me which Sixpoint spice of life it is that you have?
Waitress: It's an IPA
Me: Yes but which one is it.
Waitress: They use a single hop for it.
Me: I realize that, I was wondering which hop was used in this one?
Waitress: The distributor doesn't...
Put together a super quick beer (all extract 20 min boil, normally do AG) last Thursday. Pretty sure it was finished Sunday but didn't get around to taking a gravity measurement until yesterday OG 1.040 FG 1.002. This yeast is a beast. To be fair I properly hydrated and hit the wort with tons of...
Do not buy this thinking it will be a clone of heady. I brewed it myself any it was nowhere close. Your best bet is to do the brew your own clone recipe that has been mentioned around here. Late hopping and using hop extract for bittering I believe are the key aspects of getting this clone to be...
This is some information I stumbled across from an AMA on Reddit done with Shaun Hill
Question: "Thanks for being so active in this AMA. Once again you're setting the bar high.
Edward is a favorite beer of mine - could you suggest a hop bill to start with on a homebrew clone?"
Shauns Response...
Lots of diacetyl, had the same issue. Took of like a shot and got real hot, tasted like buttered popcorn. I was lazy and let it be, but there are methods to scrub the diacetyl if you taste it there when it's done fermenting.
good to know, I avoid buying pellet hops there since I think they don't package them well. Guess I have another reason to shop online; Or try luck and levity in New Haven.
It tasted like a bitter fairly well balanced IPA, not very fruity. Wasn't bad, had a decent kick. Still have a bottle sitting around somewhere. The real clone I did was much closer even with the diacetyl taste in it..
I can forgive then for the kit not being close, but when the recipe wasn't...
I really wish I was able to keep fermentation temperatures under control the first couple days (long story, had to brew at my in laws, thought their basement was much cooler) because minus the diaectyl that is present this is amazingly spot on...
Give it time, it's not a bad DIPA, and I'm sure it's better than the real clone I just bottled/kegged (fermented way to hot, a bit of remaining diaectyl)
