    Help controlling motorized ball valves

http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_32&products_id=236 One of these is what you want if you are controlling manually. Your +12v power supply goes to each contact on the switch (connect the power to the switch and use a small jumper wire between the NO and NC...

    Help controlling motorized ball valves

I can tell you how to hook these up if you can tell me what you are controlling (what you want the valve installed in) and what you are using for a controller (Ranco..PID..switch...whatever). One of your wires is a "common" and one of the others is power to open and the other is power to close...

    How Many Use RO/DI

I use 100% RO with CaCl but have found a few of my beers to taste "flat". I experimented with adding a bit of NaCl added to the finished beer and it seemed to help brighten it up so I may need to add in a bit of that. It also seems to make the hop flavor and grain flavors stand out, like adding...

    Munich Helles Münchner Helles

Well I guess they lied to us in German brewing school then. They are not allowed wheat in lager beer and the top fermenting beer (like Hefeweizen) must contain at least 50% wheat. We were told it is the oldest purity law still in effect, whether in Germany or the world I don't know.

    Munich Helles Münchner Helles

Just to point out the obvious...the wheat isn't allowed in a traditional Helles as it has to conform to the Bavarian purity law. But here in north America we are not bound by such restrictions.

    Brutus Sparge Arm Mounting

That's how he mounts his return and there is a 3/8 barbed hose connector of that going to the sparge arm. I am wondering about the actual sparge arm. If you look at the videos and the pictures there is nothing on top of the "whirly-gig" holding it in place...or nothing that can be seen from the...

    Brutus Sparge Arm Mounting

Anybody out there know how Lonnie mounted his sparge arm in the lid so clean? I watched the video's and there is nothing up top showing anything. I am wondering if he tack welded it at the bottom or something.

    Beersmith Volume Correction Question

You are right it's not a huge difference...about .75L on a quick look at one of my recipes. I am just trying to understand the software and where the numbers it gives me come from.

    Beersmith Volume Correction Question

Let's try again. If you measure out 14L of water at 50ºF at 165ºF that water will take up more space...about 14.3L If Beersmith is asking for 14L at 165ºF and you measure out 14L at 50ºF then heat it up to 165ºF and use it your volume measurements will be off. Since we are working with a...

    Beersmith Volume Correction Question

Does Beersmith correct fluid volume for the temperature it is at? For example if it says 14 quarts of water at 165ºF is that corrected for that temperature? Just a question from my tired brain.

    KAB4 Boil times?

How fast are you guys getting your water to boil using the Bayou KAB4? Tonight I tried to boil about 8 gallons of water in a converted keggle and gave up after an hour. One reviewer on Amazon says he got 10 gallons from 40ºF to boil in about 20 minutes!! I have my flame adjusted so there...

    Changing Coolers and Efficiency

Yes I preheat. I usually add my strike water as boiling water to my tun then let it stabilize for 10 minutes or so, then if I need to I adjust with cold water to reach my strike temperature. The floating insulator is a good idea, but I think I might just stick with my 5 gallon tun unless I am...

    Changing Coolers and Efficiency

I usually vorlauf about a gallon, I am ok with my efficiency being what it is as long as I know what it is so I can adjust my recipe accordingly for the beer I want. I just wasn't expecting that much difference in my setups, and from the responses above I just thought I would post my results of...

    Changing Coolers and Efficiency

I brewed today and came in 8% lower efficiency than usual average. I guess I will know for next time I use the 10 gallon. Also it was harder to keep the temps up during the mash. I usually lose about 2ºF in an hour in my 5 gallon, but I lost 4ºF in the hour using the 10 gallon mash tun. I...
