    New hop varieties

Sharing my results if my 3rd year and 2nd year Petoskey hops. I used dry ice to separate the lupulin from my Petoskey hops. It worked pretty well, but works best if you get A LOT of dry ice and make sure IT’s thoroughly mixed with the hops. 1.068 OG hazy ipa with Petoskey hop powder, El Dorado...

    Imperial Yeast I10 Mangosteeni Yeast

Interesting. I've heard a lot of the same from some other new yeasts out there (Omega Sundew comes to mind, though I actually love that yeast). How was your haze? Imperial's website designates Mangosteeni as "High" for haze.

    Imperial Yeast I10 Mangosteeni Yeast

How did your Mangosteeni NEIPA turn out? I was thinking of using it with El Dorado Lupomax and Barbe Rouge in a NEIPA myself, but I haven't seen a single review since its release in June!

Anyone know how I can get the New Zealand superdelic hops in the US?

Subscribing to this thread. I’ve been periodically searching the web for Superdelic and still haven’t seen US homebrew sales. I also emailed Yakima Valley Hops about them and the response was an amorphous “maybe” burger. I’d love to brew with them. They sound like a great pairing for my favorite...

    New hop varieties

That makes a lot of sense. I'll also share the below for the group/posterity. I emailed Great Lakes Hops since I was wondering what the professionals think about applying neem oil, when to apply, whether it will carry any flavor over into the beer, etc. Here is their comprehensive response...

    New hop varieties

OK, thanks. Yeah they're juuuuuust starting to sprout little cones so I wasn't sure if I had sprayed too late.

    New hop varieties

I may be a little off topic so ignore me if I'm contravening forum conventions. I sprayed one of my petoskey plants down with neem oil last night. It rained overnight. The plant in question already has burrs (mid-late July 2023). I then read after the fact that you're supposed to wash any...

    Amburana Wood Cube Contact Time

Hey Folks! Anybody experienced with using Brazilian Amburana Wood Cubes? My question is how long to leave the cubes in contact with the beer. For context: I have an amber biere de garde in primary and I'm wondering how long to leave it on amburana wood in secondary. I've read before that on...

Smoked malt made others also smokey—toss?

Fair question. I tested that hypothesis yesterday. Picked up a few grains, walked to the other end of the room, gave em a whiff. Still a scintilla of smoke.

Smoked malt made others also smokey—toss?

Hey folks, as the title implies, I stored 1 pound of smoked malt in a sealed bag (not vacuum sealed, just sealed) in a bin with some other specialty malts, honey malt included. The honey malt was in a plastic bag with a twist tie. I just noticed today that the honey malt also smells smokey. It’s...

Grungeist Hops - Which Style to Brew?

I have a big pet peeve regarding brrwing forums (fora?) when folks ask a question but never close the loop. So, let’s close the loop. I ended up brewing a grungeist hefe. It’s a tasty beer, but I definitely agree that something like a pils or saison would’ve been a better fit. I’ll gladly drink...

    Banana Bomb

Late to the party in this, so you may have already made it. HBC 630 tastes like fuzzy peach, raspberry and cherry lozenge to me. It’s great in black ipa or american stout—that’s where I’ve used it before with success. But I think that to the extent that you want to add fruity hops to a hefe...

    New hop varieties

That’s good advice. My plan was to make a 5.8-6% pale festbier base—90% pils, 5% light munich, 5% carapils—and ferment with lutra kveik. That’ll give me a good idea of aroma and flavor for future harvests. I also had a grass bomb several years back when I still lived at my dad’s place. I...

    New hop varieties

Has anyone who planted Petoskey hops brewed with them yet? Any thoughts on aroma and flavor? I’m in PA outside of Philly. I planted two of them, one two years ago and another. Year ago. Last year they grew like gangbusters but I didn’t get around to brewing with them. When I rubbed the wet hops...
