to the guy asking if brown cider from farm will clear, yes. i added some pectin enzyme before the yeast and no fining agents. it was crystal clear after 6 months.

Reducing the tartness of an aged cider?

I'm not totally happy with how a cider I made last year has turned out. I can't quite decide what the defect is, it just seems too tart. (But maybe its too acidic? It kind of hurts the teeth). I started with 5 gallons of unpasteurized juice from an orchard, added 2 pounds of light brown sugar...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I'm about to rack 10g of Centennial Blonde that's been in primary for 4 weeks (half on Nottingham, half on WLP080). If I were to brew this cream ale tomorrow and pitch onto those yeast cakes, would there be any flavor transfer from the blonde? Can I re-use the better bottles "as is" after...

Bananas Foster Creamy Ale (All Grain) **pic intensive**

Is everyone putting vanilla beans in the boil too, or just in the secondary? It seems like all the vanilla flavor/aroma would get driven off from boiling 20 mins.

    Founders All Day IPA

Adventures in Homebrewing in Ann Arbor carries Hop Union packs, at least in their store. I haven't bought anything from them online. (http://www.homebrewing.org/) I have also gotten Hop Union packs when ordering from Nothernbrewer.

60 Quart Cooler = Cheap New Mash Tun

Stainless braid for your manifold is very interesting... Do you have any issues with it collapsing under the weight of the grain? What kind of flow rate do you get? Your efficiency? I currently have an all chopper tubing manifold but i get preferential flow nearest the bulkhead

How To Make A Beer Crate For 12oz Beer Bottles

This is an excellent thread. I have many, many loose Grolsch bottles in the basement, since most of the cardboard has gotten wet over time and ruined. I just measured my Grolsch bottles in a 3 x 4 arrangement (12 bottles altogether) in their cardboard 4s with some slots empty... I came up...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I'm wondering if 3 IBUs will make any noticeable difference. My hops are a bit weaker than the recipe calls for (estimate ~18 IBUs vs 21.6 IBUs). (I did a quick search but didn't find anything). However, I was able to bring it up to 20 IBUs (in theory) by doing a first wort hopping instead of...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I have made this recipe several times and it always turned out great (thanks BierMuncher!) I'm planning to make 20 gallons for an upcoming family get-together. However, I'm unsure about the effects of a change to my water... We recently moved to a new area and the water here is pretty hard...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I made a copper manifold like the one in John Palmer's book. I get great efficiency but I always have take it completely apart to clean after brewing to get out all the little husk pieces that slip through the slits. (glad I didn't solder it together.) Anyway, putting a paint-strainer bag...

1st Lager attempt, fermenting temp concerns

Thanks helibrewer, that was a great suggestion. I don't have any lightbulbs with small enough lamp sockets to put in there, but I did put a heating pad (set to low) on the far side of the freezer opposite the carboy and thermometer probe. The ambient temperature climbed back up to 52F within a...
