    Water Profile Help

I do know that my water has 2 PPM iron, which is way too much for beer. That's why I don't want to use 100% well water and tried mixing it with R/O water to dillute the iron. (Its pH is 7.0 BTW.) But in the end I think the easiest thing to do is simply start from R/O scratch and build the...

    Water Profile Help

I'm very new to water profile issues and hoped someone could help. I used to be able to brew tasty clones of Stone's Ruination. I love the an IPA that brings out the hop flavor and aroma. What I don't like is an IPA that just tastes like pure bitterness. Unfortunately that's how my IPAs have...

    RO Unit Question

Makes sense. Thanks! I think I'll go with carbon instead of DI so if I also use it for drinking water than it will at least taste better.

    RO Unit Question

There's a site called Pure Water Club (a Google search brings it up). They seem to be about RO for aquariums. They just hook to your sink and it sits on your countertop, no storage tank. Figure I can run the line into a carboy and let it go a few hours. It's $60, but figure add a few bucks for...

    RO Unit Question

I'm looking at two reverse osmosis units for around $65. It would be filtering water that has already gone through a salt-based softener. They are both four stages. The last stage can either be carbon or deionization. I'd use it mostly for brewing, but maybe also for drinking water. Seems...

    Dealing with Iron

Now I'm leaning towards reverse osmosis. One issue for me is that space is very limited. A compact "portable" RO system would be ideal for me. Then I could dilute my crummy well water with RO water. Anyone have recomendations for a compact RO device?

    Dealing with Iron

Is there any way to remove it besides RO? Distilling the water perhaps?

    Dealing with Iron

My water has 2ppm soluable iron. Yes, that's 2, not 0.2. Was wondering if there's anyway to deal with that? Ideally I'd love to know if there is a was to make it turn into insoluable iron and sink to the bottom of the tank, then I could siphon off the top of the water. Thanks!

    All Munich Brew

Here's a simple brew I tried that I thought was rather tasty. It's in the ESB area, though I'm not necessarily trying to make an ESB; just trying to make something tasty. It has nice bready flavor. Problem is that the hop / malt balance is too bitter. The bitterness is drowning out that nice...

    Beer Belly

Correct. But that is not why I said this. The reason I said avoiding animal products caused my awesome cholesterol is because plant-based food has no cholesterol. A vegan consumes 0g of cholesterol. A vegetarian like me who avoids dairy and eggs most of the time consumes close to that. Your...

    Beer Belly

I didn't mean for this to turn into a general health thread, but since it did... I don't eat any meat, never have since the day I was born. I also shy away from the dairy and eggs. I love carbs and beer, though usually my lunches are a carb / protein mix, like rice and black beans, or rice...

    Beer Belly

Thanks for the info on beer styles to target. That's all I really wanted since eating less and moving mroe is a given. :) I tend to brew high gravity imperial IPAs, which sounds like a bad choice of brew for keeping the weight down. Side note, as for calorie sources it does matter due to...

    Beer Belly

I know to eat less and work out. Putting that variable aside, what can be done with the brew itself to help? I know you can't solve the beer-gut by just changing your brew, but surely there are ways to make your beer better.

    Beer Belly

I'm looking for homebrew tips on avoiding the beer belly. Obviously there are light beers. These sacrifice flavor, but if you have any really good light recipes then pleas share. The other angle, though, is ingredients. Not all calories are equal. 100 calories from cake or cheese are more...
