Mash pH Question (water report included!)

Thanks so much for the replies guys! Hopper: Those calculators look really helpful, thanks for the links. As far as reading up on the subject, I think I'll take a look at the stickies, I've looked at Palmer's chapter on water in my copy of How to Brew, yet I think that his focus on color as...

Mash pH Question (water report included!)

So as a professional science geek (molecular bio) I'm surprised that I haven't spent more time in this forum until recently. I emailed my local water authority and asked for the water report for my address, to which I got an awesome reply (I guess the water QA/QC get excited when you take an...

    Really clear silicone tubing

I believe you're right, we use Cole Parmer Masterflex Platinum tubing at work on our peristaltic pumps, and it seems softer and slightly more translucent than the tubing I've seen is sold online at the major homebrew stores. YMMV though. On a side note, anyone know a good way to get rid of...

    LHBS ruined my brew day

I could just be lucky, but my LHBS (Brew and Wine Hobby - East Hartford, CT) lets me bag my own grain, weigh it myself, then tell them the weight at the register. They don't even weigh it themselves, they just take my word for it. That's one of the reasons that, although it's a long drive, I...

    5# CO2 Tank - Aluminum

$45 plus actual shipping from 06518. I'm calculating that it will weigh around 8lbs when packed (tare weight on the tank reads 7.5 lbs). Date on the tank is 2010, so it won't need a hydrotest until 2015.

    Jacketed Mash Tun

I work in an industrial lab and all the stainless vessels that are jacketed use steam. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but building the jacket would definitely be a challenge

    Round cooler with braid.....

I concur with taking that tube out of your braid. I run my mashes at 1.25 and have no problems with my braid. The only stuck sparge I've ever had was with my pumpkin ale, but that's another story!

    Multiple Contaminated Batches

Hmm, well if you put the bottles through all that then it's not the bottles. I'd check your racking equipment or priming procedure as previously noted

    Multiple Contaminated Batches

It very well could be your bottles. If you're using the same bottles from batch to batch you could have some sort of infection that is carrying over (possibly brettanomyces or another sour?) If you're just attempting to sanitize them using dry heat alone they may not be exposed to the heat long...

Cheap but always looking at equipment

Haha that's definitely me for 90% of the time, although around my b-day and x-mas I'm more apt to actually throw down some cash. I need to transition from looking at equipment and wanting to spend $ on that to buying more ingredients instead. I just bought 1 lb of hops for the first time, so...

    So this just happened...

Yeah the burst disc was probably just bad. It's rare but it does happen. I think the photo of the tank should be good enough for another swap. Good luck!

    Three Keggle Brewery Build! PICS!!!

Awesome job! I especially like how you used the lag bolts to adjust the burner height
