    Thanksgiving Turkey Thread

Bird is coming out of the brine, a 13 pound free range that was butchered Monday. Drying it off, rubbing under the skin with some seasoned butter, and into the smoker! Happy Thanksgiving.

There is another thread on the board here, and this guy had a completely different session. He heated to strike temp, let the machine work, doughed in, set the temp 3F above his desired mash temp, and the machine ran without intervention, holding temp in the mash precisely. His eff was 70%...

    Blichmann 10 gallon Breweasy Questions

Per the reviews in the other thread, no, it is not very hands off. It does require attention. The posts over there make it seem less user friendly, and less efficient (time, equipment, temp control) than any electric system I've seen.

    HERMS no Electric ?

I'd like to mow my lawn as I mash... That is why I'm pro automation.

That review makes this system sound really cumbersome and less than precise with temp control. It doesn't sound like Blichmanns typical elegance at all. If this is another version of BIAB, it seems like it misses the mark in several areas. Equipment heavy, expensive, cumbersome and I don't...

Herms coil in hlt: pid-sensor placement

True, there is a point where the wort is saturated, so any additional length is unnecessary. You will get more efficient heating with a smaller diameter coil, and using copper.

Herms coil in hlt: pid-sensor placement

Were you recirculating the HLT water as you heated it? With an HLT of that volume, you should be mixing the water somehow.

Herms coil in hlt: pid-sensor placement

Coil length doesn't affect it. Coil material could to a degree, but with 50', there should be enough coil to saturate the wort with heat prior to exit. Copper is a better conductor of heat than stainless. I think the volume you are heating in your HLT does play a role. You dramatically...

RIMs rocket + HLT = 50 amp service?

Ahh, the ones I saw were only 3L/min.... Ahh, I just found one that is 720L/H, so that is 3gal/min So you have a DC converter in the box, and a PWM to control it... ?
