Rogue Captain Sig's Northwestern Ale attempt

Tonight I compared my homebrewed version with a bottle from Safeway. Mine was a bit darker, but not much. I notice on the bottle that they list the color as 36L. I am sure that they mean EBC. If so, that would put the beer around 18L, which would seem right as I had used 20 in my recipe. I...

Rogue Captain Sig's Northwestern Ale attempt

I kegged mine up over the weekend and pulled out some in a soda bottle to carb and try. I would not want any more Chocolate malt than what I have. Carbonation has helped with the bitterness. Taste wise, it is close to what I remember last time I had some at the pub in Eugene. I still need to...

3 FLoyds Zombie Dust attempt. Help/info requested

We just mashed in a batch. My 25 y/o daughter wants to learn to brew, so we're breaking her in with this batch. She's a hophead, hopefully this will fit her likes. Cheers

Rogue Captain Sig's Northwestern Ale attempt

I brewed an attempt at Sig's a couple of weeks ago. Not having seen your recipe until now, here is what I did for a 5.5 gal batch. 11 lb 2-row 1.2 lb Carastan .5 lb Chocolate Malt I did not have Perle so I subbed in Northern Brewer. 60min .9oz NB 20min 1.6oz Amarillo 20min 2.0oz Cascade OG...

Hello from Corvallis, OR! Go Beavs!

Welcome Ben, Block 15 is one of our favorite brewpubs. My wife is hooked on those jalapeno bottle caps (not the poppers) they have. I am mostly hooked on the beer. Just got their September newsletter today. Looking forward to trying the Super Fly Rye. Cheers, Tom

    opal or saphir hop suggestions

I like Saphir and have done a few different beers with them. Currently I have a Pale Ale on tap that that uses them along with Summit. Nice combination. 5 gal batch Pale Malt 66.7% Munich Malt 16.7% Caramunich II Malt 8.3% Carafoam (or Cara-Pils) 8.3% Summit .85 oz 60 min Saphir 2...

    He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A.

I worked on scaling this recipe down last year and did brew it, although I made a mistake and added too much flaked rye. I think that your target OG is too high. In the xls file, they say that the target OG of the cooled wort is 23.0 which would be 1.097. You also did not add in the ground...

How does this Honey Wheat look?

We used to always do a 90 minute mash. Lately we have started to do a 60 minute mash on our normal OG beers and have not really found any difference. I would still do a longer mash in a bigger OG beer, like around 1.095 and above.

How does this Honey Wheat look?

My wife makes Bob G's Honey wheat regularly. Nice refreshing summer beer. It is pretty close to the recipe you came up with. She has also made Skotrats B52 which is a bigger version of a honey wheat. Do a search for that and you will find it. Bob's Honey Wheat

Anybody ever brew w/ wild rice?

I made a Wild Rice Lager last year using 1.5lb in a 5 gallon batch ( 11% of grist). I did a cereal mash with it on the stove, following instructions from a BYO article. I used 1.040 pppg for the rice. Add rice and some malt and hold at 150 for 30 minutes. Raise temp to 180 and hold for 10...

BrewerShroomers Unite! Who's lookin for Morels?

I have been walking around the Douglas Fir grove we have on our property every few weeks to see what is popping up. I can not positively identify 99% of them, so I let them grow. I would recognize morel's though. We are still out a few weeks for those. A few months ago I found several Oregon...

    Cask Conditioning Homebrew

You probably would not want to use the bag with the beer engine. It would be hard to make a secure connection to the pump. The intended use is to just open the spout and allow gravity feed into your glass.

    Cask Conditioning Homebrew

That would work. I searched for collapsible water jug and came up with this one. It is about the same price as NB. 5 Gallon Collapsible Water Jug w/ Spigot
