What roast level would you call this?

Busy with a couple of boys, both of whom now are in high school. Good to "see" you, too!

    Cheap Coffee Grinder

You can get a Hario Mini Slim manual burr grinder for about $30, and that most certainly get you where you want to go. I used one daily (at least) for my French press, and it was wonderful. For an extra five or ten bucks, you can get the new "Mini Slim Plus," which is supposed to be even...

Newbie Question About Buying Green Coffee Beans

It is quite true that "espresso" is a brewing method and not a roast. "Espresso Roast" is a marketing term and nothing more. If you want to get very technical about it, "espresso" isn't a product at all. When we order "an espresso," we really ought to be ordering "an espresso brewed coffee,"...

What roast level would you call this?

It's very, very hard to tell from that photo, but I'd probably call that Full City. With the number of cracks on the faces of many of those beans, I could go along with Full City+. Did you hear any second crack at all?

    9-9-9 Barleywine . . . "6"

If y'all recall, we did the best beer swap in the history of beer swaps right about five years ago. I still have one . . . at least, for a few minutes. Because, when this mofo is gone, I got the feeling it's gone for good and forever. First, let me apologize to who sent this. I've long...

OG reading is now .998, what is going on?!?!

What it means is that the final product is less dense than water (due to the alcohol). TL

Would you drink a beer where sanitizer hadn't been used?

No pathogens (i.e., disease-causing creepy-crawlies and germie-germs) live in beer or wort. Even the tummy ache you might get from drinking contaminated beer is not so much a GI infection, but of ingesting things that may not be all that digestible. The same thing happens to me if I eat too...

I think my yeast is dead...

Actually, it's "Relax. Don't worry. Have a homebrew." Now, give it a try.;) If you don't have any homebrew around (first batch and all), any ol' brew will do. :tank: TL

    are my bottles clean enough?

Typically, the only thing I do differently from OP is to invert the bottle to drip dry and put a little bit of foil (or some sort of cover) over the bottle top once it is dry. I don't want any dust or creepy-crawlies to get into the bottle while I am not using it. You just have to make very...

BJCP Exam Tips - LONG post

Three or four months sounds about right. We typically start our study course about three or four months before the test. Of course, it also matters where you start. Some folks can refresh themselves in about a month. TL

I'll see about getting down there. It's been a while since I have. For now, though, duty calls at the Capitol!
