HERMS Coil - 3/4" OD Copper

Thanks guys! I honestly hadn't even considered how much more wort would be in a 3/4" coil! Thanks for the input!

HERMS Coil - 3/4" OD Copper

Thanks JDD, but when you say "I've seen it done a couple of times", are you speaking to bad copper and O2 levels, or the use of 3/4" copper tube for a herms? Sorry, but I'm pretty dense!

HERMS Coil - 3/4" OD Copper

I searched the forums and couldn't find a reference to 3/4" OD copper being used with a HERMS system. My brewing partner and I came across a VERY reasonable (free!) coil of 3/4" OD copper, and are wondering whether there is a reason we shouldn't use it for our herms. We currently use an old...

Danby DAR440BL Mini-Fridge Conversion to Kegerator...

Since the cooling panel is on the back wall, can we assume there are no lines in the top or sides? I suppose I could do the starch/vodka test to be sure, but who wants to waste 5-10 minutes? :) I'm also thinking of running my tap handles through the door with a drip tray below. As long as the...

    Yeast starter blow off

(re-resurrect a head shot zombie) I thought I had read and watched all the videos there were for yeast starters, and I swear, I hadn't been clued in to blow off! I did a 1400ml starter in a 2000ml flask with a stirplate last night. This morning at 5:00am, I come down to check on my baby, and...

How do you use a conical?

Sorry in advance for what is probably an elementary question. In regard to the use of a conical fermenter. I think I understand that you can take yeast off with the bottom valve, and transfer the finished beer with the top valve. But in what order? Do you drain fermented beer first and take...

    Digital Scale Deal

I enlarged the pic and it shows a .1g increment. In theory you could do as little as 0.1g I'd think. However, I don't have the scale, nor can I vouch for it. After seeing lamarguy's and Mirage's posts, Harbor Freight must have poor quality. I should have guessed as much from the pricing!

    Digital Scale Deal

Not sure if this is the correct place to post a "deal", so mods, if necessary move or delete. 1000 gram digital scale from HFT. Weigh those hops! :mug: http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/itemdisplay/displayItem.do?itemid=97920

    Boil Kettle question

Thanks guys! That's what I was hoping to hear. I have a friend who works for a distributor who told me he'd keep his eyes open for a retired keg. He said it's rare, but usually a couple times a year they'll have one! My mom got me a Rubbermaid bev cooler (10gal) for Christmas, so I was hoping...

    Boil Kettle question

While not technically a beginner, I'm definitely not advanced. My question is in regard to the size of the boil kettle. Is there a size that is too big? For instance if I had a keggle, would any issues arise if I'm only doing 5 gallon batches in it initially? Hope this is not a stupid...
