    BFQ50 Keezer Build with Coffin

Decided to test out my design on some scrap wood. My original idea was to cut 2 pieces, an inside and outside piece, because I thought the kerf would be large enough to cause a gap in the parts. And from the top side I'm right! Well, some wood filler and it wouldn't look *too* bad... But...

    BFQ50 Keezer Build with Coffin

Decided I want to do an inlay, either on the front or the top. Actually leaning towards the top right now right in front of the drip tray. But maybe an even more important decision...light on dark or dark on light?

    BFQ50 Keezer Build with Coffin

Actually didn't have everything right to start out with here! Needed a 3 prong outlet, not 2 prong. Also needed a few more cables and wire nuts. I needed to make sure that each outlet was isolated from each other on the switching side of the outlets. The input wires are coming out of the...

    BFQ50 Keezer Build with Coffin

Nothing complex here. Just assembling the base which is basically a dolly for the keezer. Always nice to make sure you have the right tools and parts so you don't have to run to the store mid-build! Using a quick square makes assembly a breeze. I made sure that the 2x4s weren't butted up...

    BFQ50 Keezer Build with Coffin

I've gathered most of the materials for my keezer project, so about time to start a build log I guess! I'm basing the build off of the Black and Decker 5.0 cu ft chest freezer (BFQ50). It can fit 2 ball lock kegs without modification, or it could fit 3 with about a 4" collar. For now I'm happy...

    Bottling Tips for the Homebrewer

Don't have a dip tube in yet, but this worked fine! I just had to tip the bucket a bit towards the end and drink the bit that was left over :mug: Bottled 15.5 liters of meed in less than half an hour. Nice and easy.

    Hi from Michigan!

Well, over the weekend the yeast finally gave up. Whether it was the high heat (~80 F) or just the ABV, not sure, but it tastes good ;) Ended up with a FG of 1.00 which gives me a final ABV of 10 - ...more % :o ( I swear I'll get better about taking readings right eventually ) I moved to a new...

    DIY Stir Plate question/issue

How are your magnets oriented on the fan? I found that one magnet works better than two due to the interfering field between the magnets. I'm sure you could still use two if placed with the poles in the right locations. As far as distance goes, I have my magnets less than 1/8" below the surface...

    Grilled Octopus

Yep, hard to find up here. Can find it occasionally at the asian markets though. Anyone here try takoyaki before?

    Hi from Michigan!

Fermentation was slowing down a bit, so decided to transfer to a secondary fermenter today. Also, I realized how wrong I was at reading the hydrometer before! I thought it started from 1.0 at the bottom, not top :smack: So, my OG should be at a minimum of 1.10 while my current SG is 1.03. Will...

    Trouble with hydrometer readings

Still more accurate than my first attempt at getting an OG reading out of my mead last week. A bit of foam would gather on the hydrometer making it near impossible to read! In hindsight I think I should've filled the tube up more and scraped off the top before I took a reading.

    Cheapest Way To Make Cider

I usually go out to the woods in the fall, pick a few bushels of apples, and then press them to make cider. Leaving it out of the fridge for a few weeks will make it hard enough. Not bad for free. Just have to vent the container so it doesn't pop. An airlock setup would help with that.

    Magnetic Stirrer

Tried my hand at making a magnetic stirrer today. Hoping it'll come in handy for prepping yeast at the very least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC1FQ55tuaA

Tap Handles made with 3D printers

Shapeways is a 3D printing company if you want to pay someone else to print your parts. They have a lot of options for material, even metals like silver or stainless steel. I have a 3D printer of my own, but it is a filament extruder based model which can only print a single color.
