    Uh oh, too warm...

I used Wyeast London Ale yeast. Never used it before, but supposedly already a bit fruity. Hmmm...

    Question about hop infusion

I did my first all-grain the other day, and I've got an equipment issue. I'm using a 6 gallon brewpot for the boil which isn't really big enough for all of wort. To compensate, I boiled most of the water in my 6 gallon with the hops, and the rest in another pot on the side with no hops, adding...

    Another Easy Aeration Method....

Those aquarium pumps are misleading. As a matter of fact, in a fish tank, slight agitation of the surface tension aerates much more than a stone. Same thing applies to the wort. My favorite method is to use the sprayer on my faucet to top off the fermenter. I did that last night and I ended...

    Uh oh, too warm...

Hey all. I just brewed my first all grain batch and set it in a water bath in the basement. I thought that would be cool enough, but I'll be darned if the temp wasn't still at 78 F when I checked it this morning. The ferment is already going like crazy. I'm going to improve my cooling...

    No signs of activity...

Pitching your yeast at too high a temperature isn't too cool... But probably not the problem. What temperature did you pitch at, and what kind of yeast?

    primary fermentation

The airlock will help keep out oxygen, bacteria, and mold. Without it, I'm not sure how you could keep your fermentor from exploding. If you've got one, use it. Oxygenation is necessary when pitching your yeast, but detrimental at any other time. What temperature was the wort when you...

Nasty haze, and other brewing tragedies

Made the recipe up myself based on user tastes. I'm calling it a "Pilsnereque Ale." Light malts, lots of Saaz, and ale yeast. Here's hoping.

Nasty haze, and other brewing tragedies

I am an impatient man... I was good with the others, but this batch is on a deadline. Has to be ready in two weeks. I'll say a prayer to the homebrew Gods for this impertinence. I'm not particularly concerned with clarity, but I was concerned about whether or not this haze was normal. Why...

Nasty haze, and other brewing tragedies

Hey, everybody. I'm on batch number 3, and its gone horribly awry. I wouldn't be too worried, but this batch is for a special occasion, so I thought I'd check. Anyway, my main concern is a very heavy haze. Its been in bottles for 5 days now, and there is a very thin layer of clear beer at...
