Thanks for the Aussie link..that's pretty much what I was thinking. I think it's definatly worth a trial. Going camping this weekend, but I'll take full photos and document the process. Will follow up this post. Thanks to all.
I've got the cooler already, all I've got to do is construct the manifold/false bottom....that's when this idea hit me. Just figured I'd run it past all you guys first. I may still try it just for the fun of it....all it will cost me is that grains and time. Thanks again.
I'm getting ready to do my first all grain batch. I've done quite a bit of reading over the summer and I was planning out what equipment I will need.
I'm going to start out with a simple stout recipe from a homebrew magazine for a 5 gallon batch. As I was making a parts list for my mash...
As I've begun my AG research I came across this topic of using paint strainers to filter wort. Someone else posted this question a few topics up and it hasn't been answered. Could a paint strainer also be used as a giant grain bag for doing AG brewing? Could this eleminate the need for a...
I've actually wondered if it's time for me to go partial mash also. Now I'm doing full boils with extracts and seeping grains. Will I see a big enough benefit to go partial mash? I'm almost thinking go all the way to all grain and skip the partial mash step. Of course with my many other home...
I've got 2 Chocolate Stouts in the fridge, 2 Steam Brews, and 2 Old Peculiar Clones that may not be quite ready. I've noticed I've begun to hord my hombrew like an old miser.
I've got a Bass clone Iv'e got to round up enought bottles to bottle this weekend and I've got an Oberon clone in my...
Jolie Holland - Catalpa
The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash
Tom Waits - Mule Variations
Any other Jolie Holland alblum (Escondida or Springtime can kill you)
Thats all I can think of for Truly obscure stuff.
Well two weeks after my original no carbonation post and cidery taste the beer has carbonated and the cidery taste is gone. I did ready in the back of Palmers book that the cidery taste probably came from the priming sugar not being completely used up by the yeast. Beer tastes good, but on the...
At this moment going to a Nitrogen Keg set up isn't going to happen. My local hombrew shop has the metal mini kegs with a carbonation setup that uses the small CO2 or N2 cartriges. Althought is sounds like I still may not get the desired cascade effect or the very fine head (I'm understanding...
Maltodextrin sounds like a worthy experiment. Sounds like I could boil and ferment in primary as usual then rack into 2 3 gallon secondarys, use one as the control and the other a Matlodextrin experiement for a side by side comparison. I'm thinking I want to stay away from Lactose...I don't...
Okay, I'm now on my 8th batch of extract with seeping grains. I want to work out my consistency and get my procedures down before I make the jump to all grain (hopefully this fall/winter). I've been very satisfiyed with every batch I've made so far. My absolute favorite was an Old Speckled...
Please excuse my non exact terms. I used the premeasured priming sugar that came with my kit. I think it's the corn sugar...probably 3/4 cup or so...small baggie. I did bottle almost every last drop of my beer and got excactly 54 bottles.
I'm still pretty new to this thing. Just started checking this board and posting a few days ago. I've only got 2 bottled and drank batches under my belt, and I'm still using extract with specialty grains ( I loved both batches). I ordered one of these things a few weeks ago and have used it...
Thanks to all. I used White Labs WLP001 California Ale Yeast. It's what the guy at my local brewshop recommened. I think I will drop a bit of yeast into the bottles this weeks just as an experiment in the very least. Best way to learn. Thanks again.
I'm really enjoying this board and...
