    Unusually high mash pH?

Hey all, thanks so much for weighing in. I’m largely a lone wolf when it comes to brewing so it’s really positive to get feedback like this. Well, I tapped the first batch in question and it’s an absolute delight! I keep trying some of it in an attempt to pick out any pH related issues and i...

    Unusually high mash pH?

Doug, thanks for responding!! And my goodness im so happy to hear you say that. I’ve used brunwater in the past when I was brewing every weekend and had a meter and it was always right on for the most part. Im getting a meter and will take care of it and calibrate it at every brew. Thanks again...

    Unusually high mash pH?

Well I decided to get an Apera pH60 and wide spectrum test strips and some narrow band test strips. I was looking at the review of the strips I had and they look like garbage. Plus I don’t know how long they have been sitting on the store shelf. Anyways, I doubt my mash was at 4.2 to 4.6 with...

    What does Vienna taste like?

I know this thread is old, but I just finished my first Vienna Lager and tapped it this evening. Most everything I will say about it is wow wow wow. I include the recipe below. I did a triple decoction mash which took entirely too much time, and admittedly I have no other lager under my belt to...

    Lager not clearing?

I brewed a Vienna lager and let it sit at a strict 50F fir 4 weeks and then transferred to secondary glass carboy, completely sterilized of course. Well the thing is, is that I had some mysterious "creamy" 1/4-1/2 inch layer of what I could only guess to be co2 or yeast floating towards the very...

Help with water profile want to brew Munich Helles with Anchorage water

Thanks! I see your point. Lets say I brewed the Helles with my water and no additions besides some acid malt for PH. Would it come out too bitter or soft tasting for the style. I dont think it would "ruin" my first batch of Helles but I'm wondering what it would ultimately do to the finished...

Help with water profile want to brew Munich Helles with Anchorage water

Hello, I need some help modifying my water. Normally I would use RO and build the water profile, but Munich Helles is one that I'd like to brew over and over and would like to make additions to the water. I know that this takes a little analysis but as far as I am able to tell my CA and HCO3 are...

    Bouquet IPA

im looking for a very "hoppy" beer with lots of citrus and floral notes.. i would like to see some grapefruit flavor come through also. Now while i would like to see a lot of hop flavor i dont want my batch to be overkill on bitterness. Would it be wise that in order to keep the IBU's from...
