Another water report - Comments welcomed

The only real water treatments I've ever done in 10 years of brewing have been to my hoppy beers. Tasty McDole sent me an " ideal pale ale" treatment that I've always used with good results. I treat all of my water though (not sure if needed). I fill up my hlt (1/2 barrel), add salts...

We get our water from the same location (Crystl Spring) and get twice yearly reports. Looking back there is minimal difference between the current report and the previous. Like I said I am really only concerned with my calcium level and pH in mash and sparse.

I'd like to piggyback (and hopefully not highjack) onto this discussion. Our water supplier (Western Virginia Water Authority) has been kind enough to create a water page for homebrewers. My water supply contains the following: pH 7.8, Na 3.36, Cl 5.93, alkalinity as CaCO3 122, Ca hardness as...

    Oops...

The hardware guy just picked out a 1-1/2" long ss bolt that had a rounded head that was slightly larger than the hole was (1-1/2"?), a couple of stainless washers (one on the inside and one on the outside) that were much larger than the hole is, some rubber washers (same size as the ss ones)...

Got it taken care of at the Hardware for $3.47:rockin:

    Oops...

In order to punch the accidental 1-1/4" hole out, I had to drill a 1/2" pilot hole with the step bit. The piece of metal is bent all to hell from the punch. I already punched a 13/16" hole somewhere else at the top of the keggle. So, I am left with a 1-1/4" hole in the top of my keggle to...

    Oops...

Except I used a greenlee punch and it has a 1/2" pilot hole drilled in it. A friend suggested a 1" or 1-1/4" threaded ss bolt and a couple of washers with a nut. I can use one of my silicone gaskets if needed.

    Oops...

Hey all. I have been in the process of changing over to electric. Marcus is building my control panel for me and I've been preparing all of the keggles. Well, today I had one more hole to punch in my HLT for a "water in" ball valve. It is about 2" from the top of the keggle. I had a hard...

I'm on it today. Will pick up the tape at my Hardware while I'm out. Also, while I was down there re-wiring the dryer outlet, I noticed in the hot water heater panel several wires connected in it's panel. There was yellow, black, red, and blue. I thought I could use them to wire up the...

I think you're right P-J because looking at the way the wire was wired into the hot water heater (for the past 9 years +), it (the heater) has a red and black wire and the ground screw. The bare wire (from romex) had been attached to the ground screw and the white and black to the red and black...

    Control Panel Design

Last question for the night P-J. In your wiring diagram on pg. 2 of this thread, you use the following colors: yellow=neutral (center wire for me) , red= ? (you have "Line 2" on diagram on pg. 1), and the third color I think is black (or blue)(which you have described as "Line 1" in diagram on...

Thanks P-J, I'll get one...or better yet I'll borrow one from neighbor who has every tool imaginable. Hopefully he can show me how to use it too.

Seems like all of the 4-prong dryer plugs have the individually marked/colored wires, but none of the 3-prong seem to. Should I return this and build a dryer cord? Is that even possible?

I do not have a volt/ohm meter. Here is the cord I have http://www.lowes.com/pd_148708-66906-UTD100306_0__?productId=1018181&Ntt=utilitech+6-foot+3-wire+30-amp+dryer+cord&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dutilitech%2B6-foot%2B3-wire%2B30-amp%2Bdryer%2Bcord&facetInfo= .
